Yes, it appears that there is no absolute criteria for going to the top of an exhibition. It is very subjective. In my opinion, both images are worthy of awards, and I am glad you got the award for the old man with the cane. It was a stark image, very impactful, with no distractions from the main story. This month's image is much more complex, and it is the current sociological mind set in photography, that complexity is something undesirable, though personally, I prefer a more involved photo story. I recall that Salvador Dali was panned from the modern art community because of the unusual nature and complexity of his work. Yet, in the end, some people began to appreciate the great contribution he made to triggering the mental involvement of art lovers! |

Oh, I do hope you win at least one of the competitions. You do deserve it, in my opinion. I neglected to state how much I appreciate the illusion of depth in this image. Did you try to vary the light from front to back, to enhance that experience of depth? I do enjoy the texture on it.

Helen, shapes and sheens are always fun to work with. This, however, just doesn't inspire me as a viewer. Perhaps I'd enjoy it more if it were a riot of intertwining different bright colors.

I do like the black background. However, I believe it might be more effective if you gave Ned just a little more space on the face side of the image. Since the background is black, that should not be difficult to do. Also, I'd really like to see a bit more lightening around his left eye. The light is coming from the right, yet we can see a bit of white in the left eye, but not the right. |

It's a pretty good job, though I'm not sure how healthy that was for you! It seemed to take the life right out of you and flattened your face to boot!
I agree with your wife as to the impression that it conveys. However, I applaud that you are always willing to search for more photographic adventure! |

I agree with Barbara and Jan. This is an excellent pictorial story, put together well, in my opinion. I appreciate the bark texture you used. Well done! |

Toby, you have captured my heart! Candy, you really did a good job with that texture. It really gave character to the image while homing in on the main subject, Toby. |

Jan, I love, love, love this! Are you a fan of Dali? You are aiming to compete with him! Dali is my favorite, though doing something as creative as you've done doesn't go over well in most camera clubs, so it's hard to find an audience!
I prefer the sketched one you chose for your submittal. In my opinion, it is outstanding! I agree with Steve. It's my favorite of the month and the year!
