To answer your question, yes, I do think it is too dark. I understand why you included the tree, but I'm not sure it really adds any significant element to your image especially since it disappears off the bottom edge. I suggest you try cropping above the tree. That would also bring the comet a little closer. |

Cropping was a good idea. You might consider adjusting your crop slightly. Although the bees are on a vertical third, they are pretty centered horizontally. Also, to my eye, the green foliage in the background is quite bright. You might want to tone it down. |

I tend to agree with Larry. Before reading his comments, I was thinking that you might crop some off the right and lighten the bison's face. Lightening the face can be easily done in LR by using the adjustment brush. It can be done in PS with a dodge layer. You might also want to consider a very subtle free form vignette to keep the viewer's eye on your subject. |

To be honest, I don't like the changes to the background. To me, the bluish/gray color is inconsistent with the color of the light on the flowers. The light on the flowers looks nothing like a foggy day to me. Just my opinion. |

Thank you for your suggestion. I can see that you are right. Cropping the image does make a more effective composition. I guess the background can use darkening and or desaturating. |

I'm really impressed. I haven't a clue how to make a composite image with smooth natural transitions. I agree with Jim about making the crossing stripes brighter or more prominent. I almost didn't notice them. Another thought, you might want to add a vignette so that the zebras and rider appear spotlighted. |
