Richard, I do like the intensity and focus on the whittler's hands. I agree with Mark and David that something is lost we don't get to see the entire hand in the center. The other object that gets into the photo when you crop below the hand is interesting, but out of focus. |

Sophia, this is a great photo. I agree that David has found the ideal solution. It works because you have a lot of background that can be cloned. The catch light in the eyes of all four birds is very good. Jim |

Mark, your dynamic range in this is compelling in Black and White. Good choice to avoid the sandy, turbulent ocean behind the waves. The only thing I wish you had done was to tell us where Castle Point on the South Coast is. Jim |

Pete, I like what you saw in this and how you treated us to the pattern of the water and the way the light reflects. The touches of blue help make this very interesting. Well done.

David, I think you did all the right things with this photo to show the action, closeness of the next bike and sidecar. The fence adds a perspective to the horizon also. I agree that the incomplete cloning removal of the riders on the right leaves a white smudge and hint of orange at the right shoulder of the rider on the right (in the sidecar). Great action shot. How'd you keep your camera clean? Jim |

Barbara, the detail and lighting are exceptional. I like everything you did with post-processing. It absolutely needs a border with our black webpage and your black background. I'm not sure about the border you chose, with the "shadow" effect and not the same on the right side of the frame/border. The left white border is thinner than the top white border.
I think this border is to give the impression that the photo is raised above the white panel below - maybe it's in the corners. Jim |

Mark, David and Richard,
Thank you all for your suggestions and best efforts. I decided to start all over using the clone tool to steal pixels from tree lines and trees to remove all of the red glow around the basked. I decided to keep the red glow inside the lines above the basket. I did not alter the white panels. Let me know what you think of this attempt. Jim |

Randall, the detail of your puffin is outstanding with the blurred background. Respecting your comment to Isaac, I came up with this. I found there was no separation between the puffin's wing and the rock behind it, so I cloned more bright green to replace the rock. Let me know if this helped. Jim |

Sarita, this is a great photo, especially to stop the action of the hummingbird wings at 1/1600 second in very detailed focus. I like what Isaac did to remove the flowers behind the hummingbird, but I like the colors of your background. Here is my attempt at removing the flowers behind the hummingbird,

Mike, what a great idea to get lots of birds on a lay cow. I agree with what Isaac did. You don't need that much background for the birds and having the cow behind the grass puts the attention on the birds. Great photo for a digital dialogue group doing birds. Jim |

Isaac, this is a great photo to catch a roadrunner when it stopped to catch a grasshopper and froze while you got the shot. The detail of the roadrunner separated from the bokeh makes this look like you did it in a studio with perfect lighting. Very well done. Jim |

Thank you all. I've redone the photo with your suggestions and methods. I did not like the intense blue because the cartwheeling eagles were just above the horizon. I wanted to keep the sharp details. Here it is. |

Isac, this is exactly what I needed to see. I did see that my sensor cleaning was not thorough. How did you add blue to a boring, overcast cloudy sky? Jim |
