Sue,
I like what you did. When you were " selecting the area and then adjusting saturation, brightness and contrast and white balance to tone it down" did you do select the area with a lasso and use new adjustment layer tools in Photoshop? or another post-processing method?

Donna, I see that you copied your comment to Sue on my page. Here is my comment about that:
One of the important conversations in Digital Dialogue is to demonstrate what your suggestions and improvements are. This is why we have the website features to copy the image, do post-processing and post it as a response. It is correct to make a copy of a person's photo and make changes and post them in the comments section. I encourage you to copy, work and post. Dr. Jim DD#24 admin. |

Sam, thank you for your time to evaluate the photo. I think that you have evaluated what Donna Paul did to my photo and posted in her comment section. She has the grainy appearance, especially in the glass reflection bottom right.
Please review my photo which is at the top.

Sue, what you captured is so very important. I know I would like to see billowing smoke, but the point is what you took - it is everywhere.
Stay safe. We're praying for rain, relief, recovery, and restoration in Australia soon. Dr. Jim |

Donna, You got what you set out to do. You have a very short depth of field and made a B&W. I would have tried to get the depth of field to include the back half of the flower too.
The choice to make it B&W has a trade off here because the white flower texture also looks like static. I like how the vein of the flower petals are magnified in the water droplets.
You're onto something special. If the flower was tack sharp through it and the background blurred more It would be improved. Your f/6.3 should have gotten the entire flower. Perhaps you were at the wrong distance,- beyond your lens' depth of field and close-up. I hope you used a tripod. Dr. Jim |

Sam, this is very well done. I think that if you had used the rule of thirds on the horizon it would not give the depth that you captured. I like how you off center on the foreground and keep the symmetry of the buildings. The one bright streetlight on the left side in starburst is distracting. I would dodge it to lower the exposure. Well done. Dr. Jim |
