Thank you for your comments. I agree. Does this look natural for the sky as seen through a slot canyon? |

Lynette, You did not need a faster shutter speed. 1/500 would stop all action and eliminate hand held problems. I think the problem came from using f/1.8 and a very restrained depth of field for sharp focus. An aperture of f/6.7 would have given sharper focus on both princess and brave - and you would be down five stops ~ 1/100th of a second (around the speed when hand motion could be detected if you moved a lot). Lynette, I replaced your image with the one you sent me today. This is clearer. Jim |

Thank you for your suggestions. There are so many groups in the canyon I was often moving out of the way as they pass by. I should have planned to bracket each photo =/+/-3 EV and =/+/- 6 EV and stick to that plan on every shot. If you go, be prepared to be spellbound and mesmerized and distracted. |

Lynette, this is a great moment of interaction between the princess and her brave. Yes, the costumes are beautiful and I like the symmetry. Very nice composition. The challenge of shooting at 1/500 to stop the action pushed the limits. Definitely worth taking the shot. I don't know what you did in Topaz Studio - I hope it helped some. |

Laura, you caught the last moment of the sun in a way to make it a lasting moment. Well done. I like the sunbeams in the middle third. One thought that I have is to have considered taking using f/16 for the aperture because this usually creates a starburst pattern around the sun. Your exposure captures the story as the farewell. |

A very creative touch to a great photo of your son. Wide open eyes about to explode tell the story. A moment like this is spontaneous, but extending the background to the bottom on the right side (before doing the puzzle treatment) might help. Your exposure and lighting are very good. Great photo. |

Your photo captured the significance of the border: flat rice patties vs. towering skyscraper, agricultural vs. business, neon lighted skyscrapers vs. sunset reflection. Great story of contrasts. Nicely done. |

Donna, what you captured in B&W reveals a lot of detail. Everything is better than the original, however the definition of the snow-capped mountain ridge against the sky gets lost. Perhaps using the burn tool with soft edges might clear up the separation of mountain and sky (if the pixels are there) just to the right of the schoolhouse roof. Well done. |

I did more post-processing with content aware cloning to give a sense of definition to the blown-out highlights and take out spots. Let me know what you think. |
