Thanks Paul for your comment.
I understand your menig for the box, but they have to be in a real situation. Do you see the picture without box? |

Very beautiful light (on the snow, the trees), and the snow is not burned. Well done.
For the crop, I agree with the comment of David.
I supposed you add the opportunity to take nice other pictures (different subjects) and you were prepared for this adventure... |

Nice picture. You gave the 2 main words in your description, namely "light and shadows". I immediately saw this 2 "elements", specially in the B&W version, which I stronger for this reason.
Good attitude and angle of view (composition). Really well done. |

Great subject and image that "immediately" call for B&W. I like the composition. Great correction of the perpective.
We can speak (write) a lot on this picture and have different opinions.
Building on the left: With or without? As it is quite present, it is ok for me. It is part of all the buildings.
Statue: merging or not with the church? At the first look I was not disturb with that. It is a whole. What could have been (also) nice is to have also part of the building (church) on the right. In this case, it would have been beter not to have the statue merged with the church and to have four elements (left, statue, church and right) independent.
I hope this is understandable... |

At first (and quick) sight, I mistook the body for stone, and I had the impression that the lion was hiding behind these rocks...
I really like his attitude and his look (eyes). I like the square format. The diagonals pass through his ears.... The are nice lines.
A s often, the B&W version is stronger for the look in this case. |

Difficult to choose and both images are beautiful and different.
I like the horizontal one for the well achieved symmetry. Well done, as it is often a "problem". We can see the way to the end. The light on the guardrails on the left is positive and gives contrast.
I like the vertical one for its imposing structure. The symmetry is also well achieved.
As I can't see all the image as in the horizontal one, I finally choose the horizontal one. |

Thanks Alison for the analysis and suggestion. Still some work to do and to learn...
This is also why this DD is interesting... |

Thanks Murphy for the comment. The choice of the focal is not always easy, you try to isolate the background, but the DoF is too short.... I agree in this cas f/8 would have been more appropriate and it is still possible to treat the background. |

Everything is already written.
I can write again: beautiful flower and great job. I also suggest to crop a little on the right. |

The frozen leaf is really nice (form of the leaf) and beautiful.
The treatment of the background was necessary, but certainly not easy. The bottom has some visible imperfection. Not so important s the frozen leaf is just great. |

As commented, everybody has his own approach. The main one is the one of the photographer.
I like this rural scenes, they have a "soul". I like the colors (yellow and green), and the wood in the background.
Isolating more the fence would have given another picture, and such subject (fence) can call "B&Y", which has been nice, but another picture... |

A lot of work gives you a really great image. Well done Alison.
I really like the sharpness and the softness of the colors. Just great.
Before reading the different, and pertinent, comments, I thought there might be some comments and opinions on the format used, and I was right ...
You used a landscape format for a vertical subject, and this lead to different comments. You "fought" the rules and you have succeeded in provoking a debate. This is as important as the image itself. Great job.
My opinion: I agree with the portrait format, but find (and prefer) this one for the interpellation it creates. |
