(Sorry, just realized I had not posted this...)
Connie, I really like this image and find it painterly indeed! The background adds interst and the muted colors are lovely. Two things, the white stroke at the border could be more muted, maybe change it to the light pink of the lily? And the white of the unopened lily keeps pulling my eye away from the rest of the image, so perhaps tone it down, or add some pink?.
How disappointing that the judge deemed that this was no longer a photograph. I'm pretty sure it meets the criteria for PSA Open. If you do want to use your PS CS6, I believe you can convert your raw file to a DNG, and that should work fine with the software.. |

Mary - This is quite a good effort of taking a throw away and making it work. The eyes and the expression are indeed good. Your bringing out of the skin tones worked well, and I love the eyes. I would clean up her face a little , since these imperfections are not the point. As for color, under image/adjustments, color lookup, there are some LUTs that might give you the colors you want; I tried night from day at 50% opacity. Also a stroke around the black imageâ⬦ |

Thanks for all the input.
To minimize the snowy peak, which I liked as a point of interest, especially in the original photo, I decided I needed a bit more interest elsewhere. So, after cloning in some clouds to almost cover the snow, I added a hint of more mountain on the left. Then I brightened the light house and added more red to the roofs, also added a bit of light atop the lighthouse, and more contrast on the rocks. Might be hard to see in this smaller version. |

This is a striking image with really strong light. Well done! I especially like that there is detail in the bright textured floor and in the dark brick background. I would like to see more detail and less contrast (more shades of grey) on the subject's face and hands. As for the flying camera, it's hard to tell what it is; it looks like a bird, which would be cool. At any rate, this point of interest could do with some additional light. Usually when I have so much black at the edge of a photo, I add a thin grey stroke to make the photo edges clear. |

This is an attractive realistic image with a lovely, calm, and relaxing mood. There are a couple of things I might modify. I would desaturate the blues in the image, since to me they are unrealistically blue so I find them distracting. Also. the boat is cropped so that it's not all there, yet only a sliver is missing, which feels slightly off. I would crop a bit more and try to get rid of the sign(?) on the dock behind (or clone the sign away). Finally I would try a tighter crop, maybe eliminate 1/5 from the top and 1/4 from the bottom. On the other hand, I could see making this more painterly by using Cezanne at a much stronger amount. |

Thanks Connie. Yes, sometimes I am too wedded to a scene to see it clearly. The snow capped peak must go. |
