Beautiful landscape with great color contrast and the ability to great an emotional response in the viewer to a nasty looking storm. I consider clouds to fill three roles in photography: (1) add interest to negative space (2) act as an important compositional element in a landscape (3) act as the main subject of an image, e.g. a crazy storm. In your photo the storm is a powerful compositional element that is amplified by the round hay bails. The perceived size of the hay bales as well as the quantity of hay bales adds tension since you know that these are not something that will be easily or quickly moved. |

I consider clouds to fill three roles in photography: (1) add interest to negative space (2) act as an important compositional element in a landscape (3) act as the main subject of an image, e.g. a crazy storm. In your photo you have added some interest to the negative space that is defined by the sky and the clouds actually do more than that - they are critical design elements that play off the geometry of the railway bits. |

In your landscape the clouds add a compositional element that forms a sort of ceiling over the mountains. From your vantage point you are looking through a wedge of atmosphere that is defined by the bottom of the clouds on top and the mountains on the bottom. A cloudless sky would have been much less interesting. |

In your photo the detailed clouds add nice contrast in the negative space that helps emphasize the linear cables of the bridge. |

In your photo the clouds seem to fill the first and second roles. The cloudy sky provides the negative space in your cityscape but in addition one cloud is a compositional element that is juxtaposed in front of some buildings. |
