13 Jul 19 Reply Thanks Sharon for the comment. I should have been paying more attention to the surroundings of Baba Jaga. I shot this image when I was working in the city of Wroclaw, Poland. This is an old tram that was built in 1924 and they run it on the weekends between the city center and the zoo. Interestingly enough, after WWII, Stalin shifted the border of Germany and Poland and this city was actually the German city of Breslau before that. The tram therefore is German built. In Slavic folklore Baba Jaga is a supernatural being (or one of a trio of sisters of the same name) who appears as a deformed and/or ferocious-looking woman. I have no idea whether the name of the tram was applied before or after the borders were moved, but since the name is Slavic, I assume the Poles renamed the tram once they took possession. Jul 15th
13 Jul 19 Comment I want to be on that ship. Beautiful blue water and nice clouds immediately makes me feel relaxed - nice initial impact. I feel that the small sliver of land provides a nice color contrast with the mostly blue image. I think it also gives a small hint as to what the islands look like that you are hopping between. 13 Jul 19 Comment I feel that you have captured a good image of public transportation in your image of the ferry. I also feel, as you mention, that the cool color cast distracts from the image. I downloaded the image and used the white balance selector in Lightroom to select a white automobile as a white balance reference and that warmed it up nicely. While I was in Lightroom I also increased the Shadows adjustment to improve the contrast between the autos and the floor of the ferry. I also used the spot removal tool to remove the dirt spot in the top left corner and reduced the Highlights because there were some blown out areas in the clouds. As far as the story goes, I like the juxtaposition of the boat moving away from the low light horizon as it gives you a feeling that the people on the boat are going somewhere interesting. Jul 15th
13 Jul 19 Comment I feel that this image has good impact as the tram is central to assignment and it is large and in your face. A smiling tram is also kind of nice. I think that technically it is a good image and that the juxtaposition of the tram and the crowded market is a good way to show the relationship between the market and the need to have a method to get to the market - a kind of perfect justification for good and efficient public transportation. 13 Jul 19 Comment I feel that this image has high impact. The two people seated sort of hit me in the face when the image popped up. I think it also has a great story as I read the signs and wonder if that is where the two people are headed. Personally I find my eye drifting to the reflection on the left column and I would have tried to remove that with Photoshop. I love the colors but I think this also might make an interesting monochrome image. Jul 15th
13 Jul 19 Comment The track makes a nice leading line and I love the yellow grass that parallels the track. If it was me, I probably would have Photoshopped out the orange cone as it seems out of place. Jul 15th
