Thanks everyone for their feedback. When I am shooting IR I am always thinking in B&W in my mind and when processing I tend to push it towards the B&W end. Feedback was very much appreciated, especially around the treatment of the grass. I intended to keep the moody feeling of the weather that day, the rain and foul weather chased us from Florida all the way to Nova Scotia! I shot this scene using various perspectives (landscape and portrait) to emphasize the lighthouse a little more. Will keep on playing with them using the feedback received. Cheers!

Hi Palli, enjoyed your image; very good use of layers: foreground of the dock, middleground of the water with the fowl, and the background with the tree line. However there is a fourth layer with the sky and clouds which I think takes away from the impact of the image. Maybe bring down the border to just above the tree line to bring the focus to the dock/water/tree line? Like your processing and treatment of the dock and trees. Very tranquil scene, thank you for sharing it. Cheers! |

Hi Gary, really enjoyed this image. Three things popped out at me immediately when comparing the presented image to the original: foreground was very well handled, bringing out detail and texture of the plants in front of the cactus; the cactus itself is well detailed and contrasts great with the dark sky towards the top; the clouds really pop and to me bring the whole image together, they are the stars. I do agree with Antje, that the darkening of the sky and the area around the clouds have a certain halo, maybe that area should be darkened too or at least there should be more of a smoother transition to the sky. Cheers! |

Hi Melanie, love the composition and use of leading lines to brings us from the left of the image to the barn. The grand Tetons as background always area hit. This location is wonderfult o shoot. I could not see the ghosting around the fence but I am familiar with the noise I sometimes see in my IR images. One suggestion would be to bring the ISO down on the camera while shooting at a slower speed. 1/2000 should give you some room to lower the ISO and still keep the image sharp. Love the image as composed and presented. Cheers! |

Hi Jack, love the Palouse in IR! To me the horizon is placed in the correct place and the meld from rolling hills to clouds works very well; it gives the image a feel of the horizon receding to infinity, blurring the edge between land and sky. Jack's application of the Detail Extractor and tweaking with the black levels add to the drama and interest of the image. Yes, had to research the Detail Extractor and must say it works, learned something new about NIK. Thank you for sharing, brings back great memories of my time in the Palouse. Cheers! |

Hi Antje, very much like the sharp focus on the statue and allowing the background to be soft, from my perspective it allows the focus to be on the statue itself. Not sure if the statue is made of stone or metal since each material reacts a little different in IR, but the texture of the hair and cover contrast very well with the smoothness of the skin. Very good subject selection. My feedback is more from a composition perspective: I feel the composition needs some more space to he image left where the elbows and face are facing and a little less space to the right where the back of the statue is. Thank you very much with sharing the image with us. Cheers! |
