I agree with the above comments - and sepia rather than just simple monochrome is correct. It adds to the subject in away that is in keeping. |

I totally agree with Gloria - the colour distracts from the expressions of the faces and looks just like a 'grandfather's snap-shot'. The monochrome version has added depth and feeling and therefore does justice to the girls. |

I think the image is perfect as it is - I also think what helps is what you did NOT do.......photoshop/lightroom out the age-defining marks on the blade or handle. Old knife meets new apple and still works. Old reason, new purpose. I'll shutup here as there can be many interpretations of this image and I like the idea of others thinking for themselves. This is why I love this image. It got me thinking about what I am looking at. |

I agree with Gloria and Stephen - totally. The colour looks cliche Christmas card, whereas the monochrome has extra atmosphere. Definitely well captured and correct for monochrome. |

Hi Gloria - I would not remove a thing from the image as it would remove detail from the story. However, the lack of colour I thought initially deprived the image of depth. Until I tried a couple of tweaks. Reduce the brightness and slight increase in contrast - that's all I did. Over to others for thoughts |

I cannot think of any suggestions - I also love the angles and shapes so probably I would have ended up with a similar image. I appreciate the comments of others as I will be able to take them on board when I next try and architectural image. |

Thanks for the comments - in particular Stephen, I appreciate what you said about the framing. To me a huge part of any image mono OR colour is composition. Gloria - it was the pipes and shops which caught my attention. I have passed through that lane so many times over the years on the way to the harbour, but this time I was just on my way at the time of day that the lighting gave it a bit more character (amazing what available light can do!). Anyway - thanks for your input |
