Hi Marcela,
I like how the mother's gaze on her babies is guardian-like as well! And the babies look like innocent fluff-balls. I haven't done much nature photography before, and I think this image is a good lesson for me--how to make the best of adversity (the lighting and the image-splitting branches) while capturing a cohesive image. I really appreciate everyone's feedback on this! |

Hi John,
Thank you for your comments. Your mention of the big branch dividing the image in two was something that I think was bothering me subconsciously--and I didn't realize what it was until you mentioned it. That branch (actually, both the big vertical and the big diagonal) really do split the image apart. I appreciate your helping me see that!

Hi Stan,
I was going to go back there today to reshoot, but didn't make it. I'm hoping to get there tomorrow. Thanks for your explanations about the camera settings! I've mostly shot in manual mode before, but had read to use the Auto ISO for high-speed bird shots--this is all experimental for me, as I'm sure you can tell! I didn't even know that my camera treats autofocus differently between LiveView and viewfinder until I started diving into the manual more. Fortunately, I don't mind being at the bottom of the learning curve! I like the challenge of learning new things. Thanks again for your suggestions! |

Hi Norm,
I think the use of the textures turned out well with this! My only suggestion would be to see if the white reflection in the water on the right side of the image could be softened a bit--it looks a little hot--or maybe too distinct. Overall, it's a lovely image with a very serene feel to it! |

Wow! Very impressive image. I love how the tangle of arms/legs/heads creates a pattern that keeps my eye sweeping around the image. I also like the mix of blue and red throughout, with the gloves, shorts, mouthpiece, ring, etc. Great image!

Hi Marcela,
This is really lovely! I like the lush feel of the location. My only suggestion might be to experiment some with desaturating the color a bit--and that's only to experiment with to see what the results look like and whether you like them.

Hi Stan, there are a lot of intriguing lines and curves in this image which really appeal to me. My only (very minor) suggestion would be to crop out the tiny bit of light-colored sliver on the very bottom left of the image. It attracts a bit much attention to that corner/edge. |

Hi Harriet, I adore images of chickens and roosters! They seem to be underappreciated birds and they are absolutely beautiful--and some of my friends tell me they can also be very affectionate toward humans! Anyway, this is a great shot and you made nice improvements with the edits. I agree with Norm that getting the eyes in focus more would be helpful, but overall I love this guy's expression! |

Hi John, this has a nice dynamic to it! I like the sweeping motion of the horizontal stripes combined with the circular image at the left. I feel as though the image does a good job of keeping my eye in the frame. There are also the interesting details of the plate with the screws... My only suggestion would be to see how the image looks by cropping out a wee bit of the bottom to remove the brownish/whitish striping along the edge--that kind of grabs my attention more than I'd want it to. Nice find! |

Hi Norm,
Thank you so much for your suggestions! I'm very new at using this lens, so your advice is really helpful. I may go out tomorrow and see if the babies are still there, and if so I'll retry the shot. The D750 does have LiveView, and in fact I'm more used to manual focus than auto, so that might work better for me. The lighting for the shot is unfortunate, as it's really shady--no matter the direction of the sun--but that's how it goes!
Thanks again! |
