Hi Carroll,
This is a beautiful portrait! Overall, I really like the lighting on the model--however, I find the lit edge on the upper right of her head and along her right arm (left side of image) to be a bit strong/distracting--the same kind of lighting along the side of her neck and shoulder (left side of image) seems a bit more natural. I'm on the fence about the lighting near her cleavage. The lighting of her dress on the right side of the image is lovely--providing detail for her posture--and I like how the lighting (or lack of) on the left side of the image blends into the background. Really a lovely shot! My comments are all just minor thoughts. |

Hi Marcela,
The image is certainly one of serenity, and I think it is also an image of mystery in the sense of who are the chairs for? Are they people who have enjoyed this scene? Are they returning? So the composition lends itself to a story--and I think that is pleasing. I don't have suggestions for improvement of this image (I'll defer to Stan's suggestions)--however, in the future, I think I'd take some additional shots positioning the chairs in different spots with relationship to the edge of the beach. Maybe with more beach between the chairs and the water so that the chairs aren't right on that edge. Just a suggestion--your image might be the best composition--something to experiment with. |

Hi Norm,
This is lovely! The whites in the snow capture the detail of the snow, and there is a wonderful progression of lines from the foreground with the creek to the "horizon"sh line in the background. I like the juxtaposition of the crisp snow/frost on the vegetation with the softer foggy-looking background as well. How fortunate you were to attend that photo tour! I bet it was cold, though! |

Wow! I love how my eye follows the red lights leading toward the center and then finds the beautiful shimmer of the reflections in the water. And the upsweep of the hotel is very intriguing. This is an image I'd want to continue looking at! No suggestions for changes. |

Beautiful! I love how there is so much depth in the intricate feathers. You might try cropping out the two tiny blue spots on the upper left edge to keep them from being on the very edge of the frame--but otherwise, no suggestions! Nicely done! |

Hi John,
This is a beautiful shot! My only suggestion would be to experiment with cropping out a bit of the foreground. The edge of the greenery on the bottom right looks a bit masked with a hard'sh edge--just a thought. The waves and the light on the beach are really lovely. |

Hi Jane, thank you so much for your thoughtful comments! Yes, a reflector/diffuser is really useful--I use mine a lot! They help provide a lot of alternatives when trying to get "just the right" shot! |

Hi Peter--Intriguing image with interesting shapes. I especially like how even with the simplified content, one can still identify the individual boats in the water. Nicely done! |

Lovely image! There is a dreamy feeling about it that suggests the love of two older companions who are still enjoying what life has to offer. My only suggestion for the photo would be to perhaps darken the two leaves on the left edge (about 1/4 way down) which are brighter than the rest of the leaves--they kind of draw attention to that spot. Otherwise, no changes! |

Hi Jose--what a beautiful woman! The lighting on her face is lovely. I think Dirk's suggested crop works well. The only suggestion I have is that in your photo the thin line of white around the left edge of her face and left shoulder, as well as the glimmer of white at the top of her head, are a bit distracting and look somewhat like they may have been residue from masking the image. In Dirk's image, those white lines don't seem so apparent, so maybe Dirk edited them out? I think the image is enhanced with those white lines removed. Otherwise, beautifully done! |

Hi Judith, The expressions on the boys' faces totally make this shot! They are priceless. Your decision to choose this photo to convert to B&W works well--I think the simplified black-and-white is preferable to the color version. My only suggestion would be for a future shot like this to narrow the depth of field so the background is blurred a bit more--to make the boys really "pop" in the foreground. You're lucky to have such charming subjects for your photos! |

Hi Dirk--I think you've chosen a really intriguing image! I like the suggestions that Judith has made--my only comment would be to maybe include the foreground in the bottom left corner of your original image to give the snake something to "rest" on. You might also consider creating a second image from this where you crop in closer to the snake's head (upper right corner of your shot)--that might be an appealing image as well! Nicely done overall. |

Hi Jane--I think you chose a nice image to work with as a B&W subject, and you caught a beautiful interaction between the two birds. It doesn't bother me that the tips of the birds' wings blend somewhat into the background--I think that helps create a soft feeling of motion. My only suggestion would be to crop in a little bit to remove some of the foreground. The foreground is very in focus, which competes with the birds for attention--just something to experiment with! |

Hi Judith, thanks for your comments and the steps you used for adjustment. I think I prefer the softer image of my original, however--but I appreciate your suggestions. The "grass" in the background is in fact a gold reflector I was using, since I was shooting indoors and needed to block the background (kitchen windows, outdoors, etc) from my shot. I like the soft patterning that the reflector contributed... |
