19 Sep 18 Comment Hi Everyone, Thank you so much for your comments! I'll give the focusing suggestions a try. I might try a similar shot for next month's submission to see how I do! Sep 16th
19 Sep 18 Comment Wow! The lighting on the man's face, the analogous colors, the depth in the colors, the tension of the man's arm on the stick contrasted to the soft wisps of smoke, the hanging cloths on the upper left diagonally opposite the gold bucket on the bottom right. This is awesome. I agree with Norm's comments about cropping in a bit on left and right sides, but other than that no suggestions. Sep 10th
19 Sep 18 Comment Very nice portrait of McCain. I do notice the shadow from the mic that Stan mentions; there's also a dark wedge-shaped shadow between McCain's hands (bottom middle) that I notice a bit more which creates a bit of a cluttered-confusion in the bottom 6th of the frame. It's difficult to evaluate images of politicians because there is so much emotion and bias given our (people's in general) political viewpoints, but there is a thoughtfulness in McCain's expression that comes across in the photo which might be perceived regardless of political party. Well done! Sep 10th
19 Sep 18 Comment Very nice composition! I like how the vertical almost-angular trees on the left are in sharp focus compared to the softer flowing water to the right. And then there's that one sharp rock sticking up in the water which helps keep my eye from leaving the frame. Sep 10th
19 Sep 18 Comment Wow as well! And this does look like an eagle with a bad reputation! I have no suggestions for things to improve upon. I especially love the light that's caught on the edges of the back feathers. Sep 10th
19 Sep 18 Comment Hi Harriet, you've done a great job capturing a cat-in-waiting! The original image appears to be more in focus than the larger image--perhaps that's just because it's a smaller dimension? I like the crisper focus in the original--maybe cropped a bit as you've done in the final image. The light on the leaves above the cat's face and on the fern on the right side work beautifully to help frame the face of the cat. The lighting is lovely and works really well to photograph a black pet, which can be a challenge. Sep 10th
19 Sep 18 Comment This is a really appealing composition, for reasons I can't completely identify. It may be because it's a shot of a utilitarian image (yarn balls)--but with an unexpected view of them from below. The straight piece of yarn hanging down does draw attention--but I don't dislike that--I think it creates a feeling of energy/tension in the image which works for me. I like the balance of lights/darks; and the diagonal straight edges. I don't have any suggestions for improvement... Sep 10th
