19 Jul 18 Reply We're lucky to have loons in Idaho as well; however, they are in areas I haven't gotten to lately, like the panhandle. I've seen many in BC. I'll take a look at the Group 64 shot! Jul 17th
19 Jul 18 Reply Thanks, John! I appreciate the feedback. I'm really pleased with the newer, cropped image. Jul 17th
19 Jul 18 Reply Thanks, Stephen! And yes, all of the ideas have been really helpful. Jul 17th
19 Jul 18 Reply Thanks, Harriet! Jul 17th
19 Jul 18 Comment Mesmerizing image! Similar to Stan's comment, I feel like there's a story being told here, and I want to keep looking at the portrait to wonder about it. The blue is gorgeous against the dark background, and the lighting on the woman's face is lovely. She appears to be engaging directly with the viewer--very nicely done! Jul 7th
19 Jul 18 Comment How fortunate you are to be near loons! They are hands down my favorite bird. Great shot of the fight--it captures the drama well with the posturing and the freezing action of the water. The only suggestion I might have would be whether there is something you can do to differentiate the escaping loon's head/bill from it's wing a bit? Maybe just lighten the bit of the wing that is behind the bill? The detail on the neck/shoulders of that bird is lovely! Jul 7th
19 Jul 18 Reply Thanks for the feedback, Stan! Below is an attempt at correcting the verticals and removing the wire above the door. I'm still learning how to clone things out, so the wire removal perhaps could have been done a bit better. Also, I think there were parts of this building which were not actually vertical themselves--I tried to adjust them closest to the door, but if there's anything still noticeably askew let me know! This is a fun image to play around with. Jul 7th
19 Jul 18 Reply Thanks, Norm! I need to learn more about the B&W filter effects. I'm fairly new to Lightroom and very inexperienced in Photoshop--so that gives me a good goal to learn next! Jul 7th
19 Jul 18 Comment I love this! The triangle the bird's wings make with the V of the tree branches is really appealing. The leaves and their lighting have a magical feel to them--there is a lot of depth to the layering in the light of the leaves. Maybe experiment with cropping a bit more (keeping the V shape of the tree, but maybe cropping above where the branches depart from the trunk and crop a bit in on the sides/top). And if possible, maybe lighten the dark areas under the bird's wings? But just things to try. The shot is beautiful. Jul 5th
19 Jul 18 Comment You've done a nice job cropping the subject from the original. I have only two suggestions: when a portrait is this close, I want to see the eyes and that "catchlight" in them... and the dark shadow under her nostril (her left, viewer's right) is a bit harsh--maybe soften that? But I like the up-close and personal shot--it emphasizes the size and weight of Annabella while the fluffiness of her hears and "cowlick" hint at what a sweet cow she is. Jul 5th
19 Jul 18 Comment Love the red as well. And I like the circular images in the shot--the round bolts (large and small), the round ring, the round holes under the glass, the round glass, the curved top to the light and the curved handle. The shadow leading away is somewhat curved, too. And I like the contrast between the red bolts at the bottom of the image and the monochromish bolts above the red diagonal. It's a very intriguing image. Jul 5th
19 Jul 18 Comment Hi Steven,

Thanks for your feedback and suggesting the cropped image. I'd originally thought that including the light post on the right would bring the viewer's eye back into the frame from the diagonals leading toward it, but I prefer your cropped image. There is still the diagonal of the shadow line on the brick wall on the right side of the image to keep the eye moving back toward the door and I like that more gentle approach, with more focus on the door.

Thanks!
Tracy
