Hi John, Thanks for your comments! I've had some time today to experiment with the white balance and I think I've got an improvement on it... |

Beautiful! I like how the shot captures the dominant colors of the butterfly, flower, leaves, and stem (orange, dark orange, yellow-orange, green) and also has those colors in the background to create a very integrated scene so that the butterfly and flower don't seem disconnected from the background. |

I'm fond of this shot for the colors and the peaceful atmosphere. I tend to like circular motion in photos, and I find this shot has a nice sweep from the mid/top right around to the left and then going up the tower to the larger cloud which then slopes downward back to the right edge. The only thing I find a bit distracting is that the tower doesn't intersect the horizon more--I'd like to see it a bit above the horizon so that the horizon line isn't unbroken... |

Love the lighting on the foreground building! That, balanced against the spray of the fountain is what captures my interest--so I don't really notice the positioning of the people in the frame, except to be aware that there are visitors in the shot for some additional motion and interest. The building and the fountain are lovely! |

Really great shot! What strikes me most is the cultural/environmental aspect of this--it's as if there are two groups of curious sightseers inspecting each other. You did an amazing job capturing this at the moment! |

I like the composition a lot--the rounded edges of the piping lead my eye around to the circular gauge, and then the path of my focus loops around again--very nice! The gritty texturing adds somewhat of an illustrative effect which I like as well. I'm wondering if maybe the dark shadow of the pipe could be lightened a bit for less contrast? I'm not sure it needs to be lightened--just a thought. |

Thanks, Norm! I'll look up Charles Batchelder. I like your suggestion of just shooting the biscotti (with jam or something similar) and without the cup. I did have the setup near a window, but the light was quite bright, casting a severe shadow on the back side of the cup, which is why I tried the flash. Maybe I should have tried diffusing the window light a bit more... It's fun experimenting, in any event! |

Thanks for your comments, Stan! I'll give the white balance a try and see how that works. |
