There are a lot of possibilities for picking out a few details in this image! I like the photo as it is and just thinking about all the ways you could use it excites me. |

This is a very sweet image. I agree with Paul about the crop and would consider enhancing the mother's eyes. |

I think this is a very good image. I could go either way on the light trails, but find the small area at the base of the tallest building that looks blown out slightly distracting. |

First, you did a great job of removing the distractions.
I think the problem with the background was primarily that there wasn't enough distance between the subject and the background. There are two ways to get a blurry background that come to mind. One is to use the "darken and blur the background" choice with a radial filter inverted and erase the filter's effects on the boat. The other would be to duplicate the image, apply a strong Gaussian blur, and mask in just the sharp boat in Photoshop. (There's probably a better way in Photoshop, but I don't know it.)
With the strong color contrast between the blue and green, it's easy to see why you chose to take the shot. |

Hopefully, this link will work : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVCvZvJcbbo
If not, the lights in the windows are created with radial filters - a small one to mimic a lamp and a larger one to create the halo. (I add a little orange/yellow color to the filter too.) I'll have to check, but I believe the "moon" is actually the sun being affected by the browns in the preset. |

I've thought about adding a ghostly figure. |

Thank you for such kind words! A day-to-night preset was modified and lights were added by using radial filters. (Both tricks are courtesy of Serge Ramelli.) |
