I am entranced by this image, Mike! It must have been very exciting to see it in person. It does appear that there are lights hidden among the hoodoos, making them appear almost translucent. |

I think monochrome does a good job of handling our "wall of gray" winter skies and works very well here. It seems to me that the reflections are so crisp that they appear almost as extensions of the trees and branches. The reflection of the hill on the right keeps my gaze right there too. I also really like the fog on the distant hills. I had not noticed the white that Mike mentioned but now that he has, I can't help but be distracted by it as well. Good job! |

There is certainly plenty of drama in this image with the shape of the trees, the water, and the light drawing my eye into the majestic mountains in the distance. I think the twisted shapes of the trees create a nice triangular frame around the brightest part of the scene and lend perspective. I also like that the trees are different colors. I agree with Mike that the light on the trees seems unnatural because all the rest of the light is coming from the other direction, but it doesn't bother me. I admire your compositing skills, especially because I've never attempted it. |

Lovely image! The color of the water in the foreground is so beautiful that it immediately drew my eye, then ended up on the great goldenrod color contrasted with the deep evergreen in the background. Those leading lines in the river and the tracks certainly work. |

Thanks for the comments, Mike. All the comments in another group were about the flat light, so the exposure comment is particularly appreciated. I had a heck of a time getting away from all the branches around that spot and had not thought to try cropping those out from the bottom. Here's my quick and dirty attempt. |
