Fell in love with night photography last year at a workshop on Mount Baker and have been practicing as much as possible ever since. We'll set something up. |

I was actually out trying different angles, focal lengths, and exposures on a new ultra-wide lens - just trying to get to know it. This was the first one that wasn't completely ruined by light pollution.
This was at Salisbury Point, a county park about 10 miles from home. I'd love to shoot with you sometime! I've actually been wanting to come to Tacoma to try some night photography and I'd be happy to take you to some of my favorite spots up here. |

Earlier the sky was a wall of gray clouds over gray mountains and gray water. (It gets that way fairly frequently around here - like today.) It is a very pretty scene for sunset when the skies are only a little cloudy. |

The long, rolling sand dunes and the blue sky provide a sense of surreal calm. The sandstorm seems misty and distant and does not distract from the serenity of the scene unless you take the time to study it. it's a lovely, almost abstract image. I'd be curious to see if reducing the foreground and the upper part of the sky a bit would emphasize the storm and make it seem more threatening. |

This is a lovely environmental shot of the horses, yet my eyes pretty much skip right over them to the difference in texture in the red hills. For me the contrast between the rugged layers and the apparently smooth faces of the hills is what makes this a fascinating shot. The color contrast of the snow on the ground below and the cloudy sky with the red mountains adds to bringing the focus right there. Beautiful! |

The framing and contrasting colors draw the eye in. The layers of color and play of shadows and textures give the photograph a great sense of distance. Beautifully done! |

Completely stopping the motion of the birds and vegetation makes them stand out yet the background has enough detail to provide a nice depth of field. The exposure gives the sense of low light conditions and the layers of color are nice. I can't think of anything that would improve this photograph. Good job! |
