You know there's a dilemma here for me. I love the idea of ICM and I love the idea of things that aren't totally in focus but sometimes an image of my own will appear to be just an out of focus image and I don't know what to do with it. So I had no idea that you intentionally used a filter that would make your buds be out of focus. It's confusing isn't it? |

Yes, I'm disappointed in lack of participation. I may write to the people in charge and ask for some new members.
Please tell me where you would crop the image - both sides? one side? Thanks ! |

HI Peter,
Interesting pine - I'm not sure, is it pine cones or just buds? I love the textures, very eye-catching.
I think the colors of the needles are so bright, it's a bit hard to keep looking at it. I would bring down the highlights quite a bit on the green needles, that would help a lot. Also, I wonder if your Shutter Speed was too low - you don't tell us what it was - and I think that's why the center cones look out of focus. You could sharpen them in post processing. Because that's what your main focal point is, right? I played around with your image - hope that's ok, and if it's not, let me know. But I darkened the green and then sharpened the center parts and here's what I came up with. |

Hi Meredith, Wow, combination of five images, that's great. It really does look like one image, well done ! Your exposure is really good and the water slide is intriguing.
The only thing that distracts me is the grass in front (wish it was shorter or you were ten feet taller, haha), and the house (?) on the right in the background. I would try to remove/clone out some of that, I keep looking at it. I have a friend who teaches photography and he always tells us to "watch the borders" of an image to make sure nothing on the borders is distracting.
So when are you going to slide down the water slide? |

Congratulations on your showing in New York ! How exciting.
It's a really bright and colorful abstract. I'm sure your instructor at BPSOP would have loved it, also. |

Hi Mark,
I think you really did a good job of capturing the colors of the leaf; your exposure is great. You handled the background well, it's not distracting. I think I would have tried to darken the background a bit, however.
What I'm wondering is this: If you had taken the picture at a lower F Stop, maybe 5.6, you still could have kept the leaf in focus, but you might have been able to keep out of focus the part of the branch in front, which I think is distracting. It kind of sticks out at the viewer and takes away from the leaf. Or you could try to remove it in post processing. However, lovely. I wish I could go to Chanticleer! |
