Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
4 Sep 18 Comment You know I think I've said this before and I'll probably say it again but this group has some of the nicest photographers you'd ever want to meet involved with it! It's really great to see people who are so willing to help out others and discuss photos and new techniques as freely as all of you do in this group! It's always a joy for me to come to this group every month and see what everybody is talking about. It's sad that there aren't more friendly photographers like you in the real world today. Still it's really great that I can log on every month and talk virtually with all of you and learn things from you every month! You are all great photographers in my book and thanks for sharing your wisdom with me! Sep 14th
4 Sep 18 Reply I would mention here that frequently in college when we had to do video projects, we were pointed to freeplaymusic.com but you have to denote that it is going to be for a non-revenue generating video (i.e. personal use)

Also adweek has a great website of places you can go for free music to accompany videos. Did you know that Moby allows students to use his music for certain videos? Of course you have to sign up and the last time I visited the site, the registration method was down. The article is at:

https://www.adweek.com/digital/royalty-free-music/

I recently ran into this problem when I did my BE A PHOTOGRAPHER presentation and I ended up going with a music track from Proud Music Library for 10 dollars. It's a very cinematic score :)

4 Sep 18 Comment This is a really great shot Bill! You really did a lot of amazing work on the murals and it shows in the shots that you created! The colors in this shot are so vivid and it's nice following the mural and the walkway all the way towards the building! It's really interesting how you incorporated some of the background scenery into the photo itself also! Well done composition! You should be very proud! Sep 10th
4 Sep 18 Reply OH! Okay I understand. Sep 9th
4 Sep 18 Reply Thanks for the comments Bill but I'm curious what you meant when you said "drop the horizon line"? Sep 9th
4 Sep 18 Reply sorry. which image were you referring to when you said that Guy? Sep 5th
4 Sep 18 Comment I was giving a presentation on photography tonight and one of the things I mentioned is that photos should try to tell a story when possible. To me, I think this is a good example of a photo telling a story. Whose boat is that and why is it sitting there all by itself? I do also like the color scheme of the photo and agree that this a very peaceful and idyllic picture. The reflection along the bottom of the boat really is something that I paid attention to when I looked at the picture because it's so colorful along the right edge.

I agree that the sky is a bit bland which can be remedied in any number of ways depending on your preference. Really interesting and fun shot! Thanks for sharing it!

4 Sep 18 Reply oohhhh..I like the modifications :) It's a very eye-catching shot and I still have to compliment you on being able to marry those images together in your mind to take that photo. Some people would rush right by and wouldn't even give it a second thought. Sep 4th
4 Sep 18 Reply Thanks for the suggestions Guy :) Perhaps I'm too focused on keeping too much of the sky. It might help if I removed some of it. Perhaps a more off-center crop cropping out more of the right would alleviate the "blown out sky" issue AND the little bench/ornamental thing that is in the way at the same time! I had a lot of fun while I was there taking photos. Sep 4th
4 Sep 18 Comment AND for those of you who are interested, here is the ORIGINAL version (bracketed 3 shot version) with only automatic lightroom adjustments that were applied and exported from Photoshop Sep 4th
4 Sep 18 Comment For those of you who are interested, here is a revised version that I tried to do to try to make it LESS HDR looking Sep 4th
4 Sep 18 Comment I love reflections! I love all the patterns being created by the water on the ground! There's a lot of abstract imagery being shown at the bottom of the photo. I enjoy the spontaneous nature of this shot and the story that is being told by the shot.

I felt the image might be a bit bright so I thought that I would reduce the highlights and increased the clarity of the image and used Silver Efex to create a black and white image of your original shot.

4 Sep 18 Comment Amazing work Ian! Stunning lighting! Really amazing cinematic quality image in my opinion! Congratulations on being able to work with somebody of that caliber in terms of photography skills AND for being able to work with all the equipment! It definitely sounds like a dream gig to be sure! It's definitely such an interesting photo! I would be more interested in the lighting layout that was used for this shot. The lighting looks so visually interesting to me!

I do like Isaac's reduction in highlights. Her face seems to be less "bright" with Isaac's changes!

4 Sep 18 Comment I really like the creativity of this image Isaac! The photo has a lot going for it. The shadow of the tree reaching up to connect with the bikes at the top is fascinating and I really like how you connected those images together in your mind. I appreciate the time you took in getting the people out of the picture also. I would like to have the composition arranged a bit differently. I feel that the bike tires on the right edge and the people at top take away a bit from the photo and I wonder if cropping the photo somewhat or desaturating those parts might improve the image slightly. Anyway regardless of that, I still admire how you were able to connect these images in your mind and come up with this creative composition! Sep 3rd
4 Sep 18 Reply Thanks Isaac! I may go back and try to look at the original photo again and do some experimentation. I may try posting the finished experiment or the original up online if I have a few free moments. I'm kind of buried with work from a million different directions at the moment though.

I have heard about ARSENAL. I'm not entirely sure how anybody couldn't hear of ARSENAL because almost every time I was on KICKSTARTER or somewhere else, they were proclaiming COME SEE THE NEW AI CAMERA ASSISTANT! I will admit that I thought about buying it but I was thinking to myself, "I already have CamRanger and I BARELY even use that and I spent a LOT of money for all the equipment for that even the tripod mount which allows you to do astrophotography." You will have to let me know how it works out for you.

Funny story...when I came home I turned on my iPhone and was asking for directions home. SIRI came up and said it couldn't find the server! Immediately I started to panic because I had no map with me and no clue how to get home unless you consider "HEAD SOUTH until you see something familiar!" a good way to navigate. Anyway I tried rebooting my iPhone and it kept coming up saying that SIRI was unavailable. Finally, I realized that the iPhone was still trying to connect with my CamRanger which was turned off and in the camera bag! Once I switched it off the CamRanger network, it immediately started navigating! I don't mind telling you I was sweating bullets for a while wondering if I would be trapped in Muskegon for the rest of my natural born life!

4 Sep 18 Comment Really great photo Erik! Amazing detail in the wings and some really great colors on display in the image. The clarity of the image is quite stunning. The placement of the dragonfly as well as what it is perched on is composed perfectly. I might crop a lit bit off the bottom but that's really my only suggestion I would mention. Sep 3rd

15 Sep 18 Comment I'm just visiting but I really love what you did with this photo Joan. Your image reminds me somewhat of Infrared photography. I love the vertical format that you converted it to and it works quite well with all the vertical lines in the image. Very interesting image. Sep 13th

74 Sep 18 Comment I like this shot Angela. I like the foreground interest and you worked to get that "silky smooth" angel's hair water effect which is always a delicate balance to get.

Personally I would be interested in learning what filters you used to get this if you would be interested in sharing. Also I'd like to know how you got this shot (i.e. was it taken from a bridge or something?) The reason I ask the second question is because a local camera club wants to go photograph waterfalls and they were talking about how everybody should bring ropes with them so they can tie themselves to trees in case they want to go out onto the slipper rocks to get really GREAT shots! I guess one of the waterfalls is around 100 feet off the ground if you happen to fall off the rock. I'm not really that brave to go after those shots myself.

74 Sep 18 Comment Really interesting portrait Megan! You really seem to have captured a genuine "emotive" moment with your son which is a great thing. His expression is very authentic. Good clarity and focus as well!

A few minor issues would be I would like to see his eyes. People connect in portraits with the eyes. Either that or it would be nice to see him in more of a "relaxed" pose so to speak. The reason I say that is because I feel it looks somewhat as if you took the picture and he decided to close his eyes at that very moment. From your description, I don't think that's what happened but somebody who was viewing it elsewhere might pick up on what I mentioned.

Also I would decrease the bright white area in the upper left corner as it pulls attention from the main image.

Still I do like the setting that you have placed your son in and the work that you did in trying to capture his mood without "posing" him. I admire all photographers who can capture authentic emotions from people. Good work!

74 Sep 18 Comment I like your composition Arne! The train bearing down on the viewer is definitely an imposing presence. I'm curious to find out whether you were standing or kneeling for this shot.In general, the leading lines of the track as well as the train is what makes this photo visually interesting.

I REALLY love the light and the smoke that is being displayed in the original photo and I feel that helps bring the photo to life. My only mention is that the light and the smoke seems to be "lost" a bit in translation to the new image. I would have tried "protecting the smoke clouds"during the translation somewhat to help enhance the motion of the train.

Quite a dramatic image!

74 Sep 18 Comment Very interesting composition Bill! Nice foreground interest in the photo also! I like the detail of the castle and the textures that are displayed along with it. There is a slight haze in the photo and I wonder if the DEHAZE slider could be used to any effect with this. I also agree on the fact that the picture would be improved if the skies were more dramatically darkened.

I ran it through a DEHAZE filter and through SILVER EFEX and came up with an image similar to this. You can imagine the other possibilities this would give you as well.

74 Sep 18 Comment Wow..those comments really pile up quickly, don't they? :) I wish I could find the original article that I saw this in but it was done in black and white and it had a lady actually reaching through and partially coming out of the frame in different environments (woods, etc.) The best that I could come up with was this person who I had originally hold the frame on the outside edges and then I tried to remove the hand later on. Also the lighting that day was pretty blinding (it was taken around noon) so the lighting conditions were not very favorable although it was extremely cold that day. Originally the reason that I lightened the "frame" was to separate the person posing from the rest of the frame and so it would try to call some attention to the fact that she doesn't really belong there. As I mentioned before, the previous article had the woman partially reaching and stretching the top half of her body outside the frame itself and trying to explore what was going on around outside of the frame itself.

Thanks for all the comments!
