Hello Stephen:
Yes, I used my Canon Speedlite over to the left of the flower lying on its side I believe for this photo. The flash was set to a low intensity. Most of the shadows on this however come from the invisible black background setup.
I hope that this answers your question. Let me know if you have any other. |

On my Macbook Pro laptop, you can see some magenta tint to the clouds but then I move it over to my HP monitor (which is where I do all my post-processing) and I'd say most of the magenta disappears however the sky isn't as blue as it was before.
Someday I'll buy a monitor that shows me true colors for my post-processing but now I'm trying to live with what I have. |

mmmm...root beer :) My favorite non-alcoholic drink is milk. I go through a LOT of that every week. People say I should drink more water however I despise that. |

Well that's very nice of you to say Joseph. Actually it's funny you should mention "focus stacking" because I'm thinking of buying a focus stacking piece of software. I know that it can be done in Photoshop or Lightroom as well though. I might start experimenting with that sometime in the future when the mood strikes me. |

I very very rarely drink Guy so once I'm through with the beer, I throw it down the sink. To me, it's just another object to be photographed. Now if this were a Pepsi or a Mountain Dew then I'd be drinking every last drop! |

I always enjoy when photographers embrace the creative side of photography and this is something that I like a lot. The background effect that used is both colorful and a bit hypnotic. I also like the off-center composition of the bird itself and feels that it gives a nice touch to this picture. Even though there is an artistic slant to the photo, I like that the bird's eyes and beak have more clarity and are easily distinguished to give a viewer something to identify with. |

Really wonderful shot Guy! I admire the time and technical work that you put into this picture most of all! The clarity in this picture is wonderful and the person that was in the picture adds a nice bit of storytelling to a static image. I love the lines of the stairs that lead the viewer's eyes down towards the bottom of the picture also. Quite an interesting shot. Thanks for sharing. |

I believe this wins the prize for one of the creepiest photos I've ever seen. Congratulations! The one thing that I keep focusing on everytime I see this photo are those things on the top of the skull which looks a lot like hair! Anyway it's the curiosity of looking at that skull that really wins me over with this photo! I also like the contrasting textures and the colors surrounding the skull but nothing can beat the central point of this composition (the skull) for me. |

Thanks for the comments Guy. So it IS a rose :) I wasn't sure. I got it in some flowers at the local Wal Mart and was photographing all of them. More and more I'm starting to see the benefits of using a tripod :) I just used it the other night when I did another beer beverage shot where I wanted to composite into one photo several shots of the beer and the beer glass along with the different lighting effects from all the different shots. I don't have to do anything that elaborate with flowers though! |

Really amazing sky in this photo Isaac. It's a very majestic looking picture with a really great view of the towering structures. Really great work on the post-processing! I like the reflections you can see in the building near the bottom levels. |

Really nice work on the plane Ian! Great dramatic shot and the viewpoint is done quite well! The colors of the clouds in the sky along with the visibility of the stars are stunning! I like how the details have been brought out on the plane as well. Also I really enjoy the crop that you did with this as I saw what the photo was like before this.
The starburst effect looks a bit more muted than the one that I saw on the photo you sent me however it's a very striking image! |

I've found myself staring at this photo inexorably (and that's today's nickel word of the day) off and on since it was posted. I really like how idyllic the setting is and how colorful the photo is from the foreground to the trees in the background. I like the partial framing of the leaves around the top half of the picture. Further I think the road presents a perfect curve leading the viewer's eyes into the photo itself. Someday when things get too stressful in my life, I'm going to remember this photo and how serene it is. The work put into this photo really shines through! |
