Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
1 Dec 17 Comment I'll start out by saying that I'm from another group but when I was perusing through the groups and the images, I immediately stopped in my tracks when I saw this amazing image! It really is a very creative image and the effect is quite stunning! I just thought that I would stop by and mention how much I enjoyed your photo. Dec 2nd

12 Dec 17 Reply I'm sorry. I didn't mean those words quite as they were taken. I should have said that I felt the spider webs should be given more "focus" in the composition which is why I wanted to rotate the composition and crop closer to the webs. I felt the "focus" of the photo was actually perfect! I hate carrying tripods with me as well and often take a look at a batch of my photos and think, "Gee..if only I had a tripod for this one photo" but it takes so long to set up for one photo. 12 Dec 17 Reply Thank you Carole! I'm sure that I will learn a great deal in this role. Roy Killen has been both wise and patient in acclimating me to my new role. Dec 17th
12 Dec 17 Comment Thank you one and all for your comments! I enjoyed them very much!!!

Walter, I put a small border in one of the photos that I posted further up in the comments if you'd like to see what the picture would look like with a border.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everybody has in store for the "weather" theme. I have been working hard on several different concepts for my "weather" picture. So far, I'm unhappy with all of them.

p.s. I like PSA so much that I recently decided to volunteer to be the Michigan State Membership Director. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the club and seeing what I can do to make the Michigan member's experiences better.

12 Dec 17 Reply Thank you for your kind welcome and your comments Barbara. I will try to work hard in this group and I am looking forward to learning all the different viewpoints that everybody has in photography. I don't really have a specific type of "photography" that I enjoy because I like to keep experimenting with everything.

In regards to your comment about the "horizon line", that would have been difficult in this photo. This photo was taken near the edge of a table with a black felt backdrop covering the back of the table so that I could specifically focus on the blocks and the colored reflections themselves. The f/stop was also stopped way down so that the blocks almost look like they are drifting in space. This invisible black background photo represents the type of photos that I have done in this genre before.

However the one thing that I like MOST about invisible black background technique photos is that you can pretty much make ANYTHING look good! Put an ordinary table fork or an iron or whatever in there and voila! you have a fine looking photo. You might have to play a bit with the length of the flash and the direction of the flash but you'll get something that anybody would be proud of.

However thank you very much for the comments and I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

12 Dec 17 Reply I experimented by using a clone stamp along the bottom and came up with something like this. Apologies for forgetting to use the one with the replacement aky! Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Reply Wow! That's very interesting Carole. I will have to try that out! Thanks! Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Comment By the way, I know nobody mentioned this but that little "white" spot to the left of the I on the I block itself was driving me nuts. I don't like where the lines temporarily lose cohesion and I redid it using Photoshop to clean it up. Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Reply I've loving the symmetry of this photo! Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Comment By the way, if anybody decides to try this then clean the surface that the blocks are on with a window cleaning solution BEFORE you take the picture! The first 50 pictures that I took had these really really small white dots all over the surface. I thought to myself, "Should I just wipe those all up with Photoshp?" but then I decided it would be too time consuming so I went back and cleaned the tabletop off and ended up shooting the photos again. 12 Dec 17 Comment I thought your interpretation of "right angle" was perfect Kerstin. I think it's great that people aren't so rigid and allow themselves to be open to new possibilities. As I mentioned in a previous comment, some people might think "weather" denotes a meteorological condition but it can take on a lot of other meanings as well when you look it up and truly think about it. I think this is one of the things that makes photography so much fun is the different viewpoints that we can see in the work that we do. Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Reply He might have been trying to use ISO 400 because he was using a 1/250 shutter speed with a 50 mm lens I assume to avoid camera shake. If he was doing it handheld then it's possible he might have needed a high ISO to get a high enough shutter speed to make a "smooth" picture. I often have to get a VERY high shutter speed (even higher than 1 over the shutter speed) on my camera to get "clear" photos. Although if he was doing it tripod mounted then the high ISO might not have been needed. Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Comment Very well done night photo! I'd be interested in knowing what settings you used to get the photo. The sky definitely adds a bit of interest to the photo. I feel the sky and the colors along the tops of the skyscrapers are the most engaging part of the picture itself. I might have "burned" in Photoshop some of the bright lights seen through the trees along the bottom and experimented with "dodging" some of the trees themselves to bring up some of the detail from the shadow.Quite a great shot considering you were on a boat. 12 Dec 17 Comment I like all the right angles in this photo and especially like the dramatic shadows in the foreground. I like the colors but I feel that they are somewhat distracting along with the extra material in the upper right and lower left corners of the window. I feel that the focus should be more on the flag but I also like the shadow treatment VERY VERY much! I did something like the attached (I wasn't very careful with my masking however) and you can see how I applied a SILVER EFEX Pro 2 Underexposed preset to the image coming through the window. Dec 5th
12 Dec 17 Comment Border as requested Dec 3rd
12 Dec 17 Comment I really like the reflections in the water for this image! I also like the building and the overall serene nature to the photo. I feel like I could sit down here and rest for a while. However my eye gets confused by the central focus of the photo. My eyes naturally follow the lake into the photo but get somewhat blocked and confused by the autumn trees on the left. It might be interesting to change the viewpoint of the camera. Dec 3rd
12 Dec 17 Comment I really like this group that we have such creative individuals that can interpret the subject "right angle" so freely. I was also trying to fit within the "right angle" view for my subject but it's great to see how everybody thinks differently while still adhering to the overall theme. I was thinking of this very same concept while I was contemplating the theme "weather" as well. Dec 3rd
12 Dec 17 Comment Someday maybe I'll make photos as good as this! I'm entranced by the color treatment that you did on this photo as well as the macro nature of the subject. I'm also amazed that you managed to catch one of the little seeds flying away as you were taking the photo. I tried taking a picture similar to this when I did my 52 week Creative Photo project and the dandelion really wouldn't cooperate with me and the person who assisted me one little bit. Really awesome photo! I am curious in finding out how long it took you to photograph a dandelion like that. Dec 2nd
12 Dec 17 Comment Really amazing subject! We don't have mountains like these anywhere around me like that! I enjoy the color and the foreground interest that was added to the picture. There is some minor haloing that can be observed along the mountains which might have come from the enlargement depending on how big it was enlarged. I'm very much interested in learning of what type of shot you were going for when you took this. You mentioned that you walked a lot to get this image and I wondered just what exactly caused you to take this photo over everything else. Dec 2nd
12 Dec 17 Comment I like this image very much with the contrasting texture and the spider webs/angles serving as a central point of the photo. Really nice post-processing work. If I were to make any suggestions then it would only be that I feel the spider web/angles could be focused on more closely. (One potential idea I had was to flip the photo 90 degrees to the right then crop in closer to the web itself.) Dec 2nd
