I don't know much about portrait photography either but I see the nose shadow problem. Maybe a graduated filter could be used to make the right side darker, maybe much darker. I can see this as a cover photo for the young man's first album cover. Such renditions seem to be very popular these days. ( sorry if this is not helpful I just don't know portrait photography) |

David's suggestion to shoot an hdr image is good if you can return to the scene otherwise i think the suggestions offered by Stuart are essential, most importantly straightening. Some people like an 'artsy' twist to their photos but not for me. I don't know if you intended the tilt or not but Stuart's treatment offers significant improvement.
Having said that, at least you were there and brought back an image to record you visit. So well done. |

I've never seen these falls before but this a nice shot. My taste would have preserved more details with a shorter shutter speed. With the current image i might try the dehaze slider to take back some of the misty foreground. But these are for my taste. Your shot is a nice capture (I suspect you have at least several) presenting a dreamy feel. I can imagine this a a large inspirational poster with some words of wisdom superimposed in some of the white space. Well done. |

What a fantastic shot! You captured the shot a split second before the lead kayak drops down leaving the viewer with a clear impression of the action, excellent timing.
Interesting lighting especially on the rock in the center background, with the sun low in the sky.
Plenty of white water to add to the action with some nice colors blended in.
I love it. |

Good suggestions gentlemen, I think the cropping is a big improvement. I must learn to contain my excitement and think about camera settings while still on the spot instead of after the event. But despite the technical errors I think the cropped image will appear in my photo book of the trip. Thanks again. |
