I like it for its negative space and simplicity. I think you might be able to sell this to Cora for her line of greeting postcards if you cropped in the right aspect ratio :)
I like the color and detail as is but also Tom's suggestion works well too.
Attached is an example of what I'm thinking about using words following on from your title Fred but, of course any simple theme can be used. |

Yes I have to agree about the background. I can't even count the number of times I've made the same mistake. Macro photography is not easy but the results can be spectacular if one has patience for it. The image of the hosta itself looks fine to me. Maybe you can Photoshop in an alternative background?

I'm not sure how you got to this effect Tom but it looks unreal to me. The flash shadows are not harsh so they don't bother me. The rest of the flower appears to be drawn and painted with watercolors by the maker rather than photographed and I like it. It's a very nice color palette and the greenish tint on the background, which looks like it was actually a white sheet of paper compliments the overall effect. Nicely done. |

Like Tom, this generally is not my cup of tea, however
I do like the result in this case. I've no idea how to go from your original to the final version but I can easily imagine this enlarged, framed and hanging in a museum of modern art or on a private collectors wall.
I have lots of 'not impressed' photos. This has inspired me to experiment. Thanks for sharing Joanne and well done. |

Great concept and I really like the colors against the background with a hint of pink and blue. The features at the bottom that Tom mentioned did not distract me but cloning them out is a good idea to open up the negative space of the background.
The things that bother me the most are the out of focus stems as you commented Cora. Cloning them out might work but then the other parts have no support. Even so, the other parts are so good that with a simple message like 'thank you' or 'get well' it could be another in your series of greeting cards.
Watch out for Cora's Cards in the future folks! |
