Personally I haven't forgotten to reset WB even once ... since last week! ;)
The lighting on the shot really makes it for me. Yes the signs seem to be an unavoidable distraction but that is the scene.
The thing that surprises me most is the way you've chosen to let the trees overlap the top of the structure. Mark likes it but I find it distracting and it gets the way as I try to study that important part of the lighthouse. Obviously just a personal opinion.
Nice idea to collect these images, might make a nice book one day. |

I agree with Mark, the sharpness is amazing and since you were trying out your new software i see why you wanted such a close crop to show it off. However from my point of view I prefer the original shot. When I fist saw the blowup without the original I thought the eye was from some sort of lizard!! Shows how useless I am knowing about wildlife!!
Anyway Tom this was definitely a great capture with very impressive sharpness. |

Nice shot JoAnne. I agree that this nicely shows local color traditions and Marti is right about the bright spots in this lady's face being a common problem with flash. However I'm guessing you didn't have an opportunity to set up a simulated studio and maybe an off camera remote flash wasn't available to you, so you just did the best you could under the circumstances. Therefore I'd say this is a nice shot, probably not an award winner, but nevertheless a good capture of the moment and still shows the natural beauty of the lady, her hair and dress. Thanks for sharing. |

Thanks for the comment Marti. It was my intention to make a spooky picture just for fun. The original 'snap' was so boring. But I should mention the feel of the picture was inspired by the B&W photographer Jack Curran whom I admire tremendously.
Interesting point about the stroke. I never even considered that option. I will in future. Thanks again.

Before I joined St. Louis Camera Club I didn't have much appreciation for these arty shots but since then I've learned a lot and my appreciation has grown. This one in particular I like a lot. It puts me in mind of some of those fractal images one can find on the internet. Of course this image has a lot of science tied up in it too. The dendritic growth of the ice is clearly visible.
I see Marti's point about reverse vignetting and wonder if actual vignetting could be added to darken the edges thereby bringing the viewer into the center of the frame.
Either way, nice shot Cora and please share if you do try again with tripod and macro lens. |
