Thank you Alan and Tom for your comments. I agree that the sharpness and noise detract a bit from the shot. The heavy cropping and noise reduction are, I think, the reason for it not being super sharp. I used Lightroom for noise reduction which seems to add blur as reduction becomes heavy but I'll check out your suggestion Tom and see if Imagenomics gives a better result. I was shooting a band's recording session last week in a basement studio and the light was terrible. Had to use ISO 12800 so your suggestion is very timely and I thank you. |

Since facial details and colors were your aim for this shot Tom, then this is a great shot, very well executed. Just because some people may find it 'scary' certainly doesn't detract from the quality of the shot. In fact if one thinks about the fact that these are mating season colors it kinda funny what the animal kingdom deems attractive! Thanks for sharing. |

Tom, this is a remarkably sharp shot for hand held at 560mm, even at 1/320th very well done. Nice bokeh too, making this a nice shot from the technical viewpoint.
Although the birds colors are attractive, this close up with the beady eyes and curved beak makes for a pretty scary looking creature!!
If you were just trying to capture all that detail then I'd say mission accomplished and nicely so. However I find myself wondering if a a shot zoomed out a bit might take the edge off the 'scary' detail side and allow the viewer to see a more attractive creature.

I absolutely love this image. Having grown up in London, this image for me epitomizes the western USA. This is exactly what made me want to live in the USA, and become a citizen. Of course the USA has a lot more to offer, but views like this are what first captured my imagination and inspired me.
I was driving from St. Louis out to Yellowstone with a friend from the UK years ago and said excitedly "look at that, look at that!". He looked and said "what, there's nothing there". "EXACTLY" I said.
This is like a seascape but on land, and beautifully captured showing big sky and lush green prairie. Perfect! Makes me want to go west again soon. Thanks for sharing Alan and congrats on a truly magnificent shot. |

It's a pity you didn't have more time to see more of Paris. It's a beautiful city. However the Eiffel Tower was a good choice for an iconic shot. I too like these low angle shots and you've captured the detail in the structure really well JoAnne which is the feature that captures my eye most in this image, but you have nice sky too making an excellent background.
The only thing I can suggest for potential improvement would be to crop a little of the right side to make the shot a little more symmetrical, (see image) but that's just personal taste.
Nice capture JoAnne. |

Very nice image Fred. This alone would be worth the cost of hiring a professional to show you around the best angles. This is one of those vertical format landscape shots (relatively unusual) and it captures the half dome beautifully. The thing that surprises me is that with a 25 sec exposure the people on the far shore still show up. They must have been standing very still during the exposure!
I really like the colors and the lake looks frozen which is a nice effect. An all-round great shot in my opinion.
