49 Jan 18 Comment On looking at this image without reading your description it looked to me a bit like a pair of old Roman sandals washed up on a beach! :)
In my experience, macro photography is much more difficult that it appears. Did you have the camera on a slide mechanism? I have found the slide method to help a lot with focus. Liveview (Nikon speak, dunno what Canon calls it) and manual focus, get the best focus you can, then use the slide to move the camera closer or further from the image to fine tune the focus. (Sorry if you already were doing this). In some cases focus stacking is required but I've never tried that myself.
Alan is right about needing a bigger image. Getting as close as possible and cropping closer to the seeds would help in this. Good luck with your macro photography Fred, I hope you'll share more of your shots in the future and share any tips you pick up along the way to help the rest of us.

49 Jan 18 Comment First off, what fun it must have been shooting this race.
As I look at this image, my fist reaction is that I wish I had a wider field of view to get more context. Would be nice if the sled wasn't cut off for example. However on reading your description of the situation (like the trailer position and lighting restrictions) I see that was probably not possible.
The diagonal line of sled and huskies gives the image a nice perspective and the saturation level in gold and blue draws ones attention. I need to visit Minnesota in race season!

49 Jan 18 Comment I like this a lot. Not an easy shot to make without scaring the coyote. Staying by you car worked great. Alan's edit is an improvement and your crop definitely helps too. Very nice capture with the flowers too, seems like you stopped the car in just the right place.
This guy looks so majestic. Thanks for sharing Joan.

49 Jan 18 Comment I agree with Alan's fellow club member although I wouldn't have had the expertise to come up with his suggestions myself.
I find myself wishing you had captured this at the moment of takeoff with the front wheel (maybe all three) just of the ground. But, of course, I wasn't there so maybe you were restricted from a suitable position to capture that.
You certainly achieved you objective though in capturing the propeller rotation. Nice shot Tom.

49 Jan 18 Comment Good comment Alan thank you. In fact I did make another image using my 70-200mm but the couple seemed romantically involved and I felt I was intruding so I just prefer this sunset scene which is why I went to this spot in the first place. However, I agree sunsets can be a bit boring. (And yes, I'm hopeless at street photography LOL.)
I'm now wondering if the people in this image are more of a distraction and it would be better if they weren't there.
When I learn how to use Photoshop maybe I can try to clone them out. Thanks again for the thought provoking comment.

49 Jan 18 Comment I think Alan is suggesting more contrast is needed, if so I agree. The very name Devil's Tower invokes a dramatic image in my minds eye. In my view this is a great image having the potential to portray that drama. Increasing the contrast significantly definitely adds this to the scene. I think a crop to move the Tower further of center also helps but is not as important.
I took the liberty of trying to edit the original in lightroom. The edit suffers from working with a low resolution jpg instead of a full res RAW file but I think it illustrates my point.
