I think I would have cropped out the right side but either crop seems to improve the image. For my taste I might have tried increasing the vibrance and saturation levels a bit. That may be just something about my monitor though.

I agree with previous comments about cropping and Joan's point about adding a vignette is a good one.
After cropping, you might also try flipping the image horizontally so the lady is facing slightly to right.
Very nice capture, sharp and nice lighting.

Thank you all for the nice welcome and the feedback. I feel encouraged to keep trying this approach when faced with the right scene. With this particular image, as several people have commented, I do wish I had more space on the right without cropping the current left side.
So I have learned from this experience and I look forward to discussing more images going forward. Thanks again. |

Nice capture Joan, I like the way the light reflects with different tones from each building. From what I've been learning about composition I might be tempted to crop out the partial building on the right hand side which would also serve to move the Freedom Tower a little further off center.
I think if I were shooting this I probably would have tried lower ISO, slower speed (e.g. 1/400th ISO 3200) but I wasn't there and you Topaz software (I've heard of it but never tried it) seems to have done a good job on noise reduction so its a mute point and if the boat was bouncing maybe the faster shutter helped to keep things sharp. All this said I still think it's a nice shot as is. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the feedback Alan. I completely agree with your assessment. I had been thinking around the same problem during editing but the solution is clearer to me now. This structure does beg more space to the right. I made several shots similar to this but, unfortunately, all have the same problem! Wish I'd seen this while shooting it but alas I didn't. So I live and learn :) Thanks again.

Yes very nice long exposure shot. I shoot with a D800 mostly so I completely agree about the resolution available with 36MP and a good lens.
Great job on finding this vantage spot, it offers lots of possibilities for the future too. I can't see anything that I could say would improve this excellent image. You might be able the change the overall coloring a bit by toning down the orange and yellow and boosting the reds or changing the white balance to make the image colder but I suppose it depends on the viewer whether they like these warm tones or something else. That's all very subjective but technically I think this image is great and if the viewer likes the coloring as I do, I think it has potential for high placing in a competition line up. Very well done. |

This image immediately invokes humor. Gigi has a beautiful face which also helps. This is a very creative shot and I'm inspired to try something similar sometime.
The only thing I can see that a judge might mark it down on is the the tree by Gigi's right ear. Would be nice if it could be cloned out but then the low contrast between her ear and the white cloud would probably be worse. However these points are minor, the image is really good as posted. Obviously it's a real situation with a curious dog. Very creative, leaves the viewer feeling happy and reminded of fun summer days. I like this a lot, wish I'd made it! |

I like this image. Great depth with Bison, people, flat plain and finally distant hills. Might have been improved if your position had been a tad lower to remove the roof of that white truck just right of center. But that's easy to say now. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I was the maker until I got it up on my computer.
In post I may have tried to bring out more detail in the sky using clarity on the GD filter and I may have tried a little more saturation there too but not sure if that would make the image better. I'm no expert, just going from what I've learned from typical camera club comments in the hope it helps. Truthfully I think it's great as is. Gives the feeling of actually being there. Good job! |
