65 Aug 20 Comment Very nice and interesting color variation and progression.
I enjoy the composition and textures.
The V shape I see with the spine and the lower main vein is very effective.
Each color cluster represent different dryness and stages of life and I really find them fascinating.

65 Aug 20 Comment Great detail and texture.
I like insects, bees etc but snake is the one subject that does not turn me on. It really increase my adrenaline when I see one.
I seldom can make a great selection in one go.
There are lots of preliminary selection methods that yield an OK subject. After that I would put on a mask and select more a bit at a time by painting on the mask after using finer selection tools .My favorite is a pen tool that yield smooth edges. Pen tool does not need to be complicated if you are working on a small area . It is the best tool to draw a straight line.
The eye is in golden spiral ( or close to it) so it is very effective.
I usually use high pass to sharpen the eyes quite a bit more than the other areas of the subject too.
Thank you for sharing such an interesting subject.
I am glad that it is only on the screen.

65 Aug 20 Comment Nice detail , Lynne.
I agree with Peter that a slanted orientation is more dynamic.
Once we got a painter to critique our images in the club. She seems to think that the subject should not rise right from the apex (although I certainly like it). Since then, when I do a diagonal orientation I usually rise next to the corner , not right from it...Or...We should not get a painter to critique our images...LOL ! ! !
Good detail and texture too.
Just wondering what the red background in a nature shot would be.

65 Aug 20 Reply Thank you very much, Peter.
I am collecting lots of ideas to try my images on and am very greatly for all the time you spent on it.
There is never just one way to do a process and we are allowed to go down many many channels in our search.
Thank you very much once again.

I belong to a FaceBook group provided by the supplier of my water drop machine.
90% of the images there do not include the base.
There is also another new part to this machine call ( Shot from below =SFB)...a pressurized jet that shoot up to meet the falling drops. Since the collision happens in the air, the bottom jet only show a straight stream coming up....hence no base. After I get used to my full 3 valves set I shall be getting another system that include the SFB jet...just waiting for ease of clearance in the border.
The 5 valves plus SFB system is what I have my eyes on for the future. For now, I am still learning bit by bit.
I now have thousands of possible candidates to choose from so by the time I get to the final candidates I shall be experimenting with what I can do with them.
This is an opening to the world of abstract water drop photography. I had accomplished my past goal of digital flower arrangements so this new goal will be a lot of fun.
Thank you very much for all your suggestions and
encouragements

I like both versions...one more natural and one more artistic.

There are many approaches to treat the background and I certainly appreciate all the suggestions.
To me, there are 3 major ways to decide on how bright I leave the background.
A ) In animal photography there was a time that everybody only have the subject in focus and blur the whole background . However, recently there were opinions that we need to show the habitat of the subject also. My original BW was processed using that thought.
B) Second idea is to take out more distractions such as darkening most of the background as suggested by my friends here.
C) Another way is to make most of the background completely dark..this make it a clearly artistic image. The large percentage of true black also give the eyes a place to rest 。

I left the texture and darker tone in my BW bloom to show the original color so viewer know that it is not a white bloom.
Art is in the eye of the beholder and there are many many different artistic choices and they are all valid.
It is really the aim of groups like this to open us to the thinking and preferences of others and I thank you all for your recommendation.

74 Aug 20 Comment Hi Ata, This is an excellent example that BW remove the distraction of color so that the focus can be on the subject .
Composition and removal of distraction is well done.
Just a recommendation to go further so that the 3 bright spots ( left corner, next to his left ear , and top right) get tone down more.
Great story and you have capture his expression really well.

74 Aug 20 Comment Great shot at exactly the right moment.
Lots of water drops and belly textures.
This reminds me of shooting a bald eagle that has a white head.
Personally I would dial down the exposure upon capturing to make sure that I can recover any detail in the highlight areas .
Blue is a very versatile color in BW and you can choose the tone to your liking so that you can control the contrast of the whale and your background.
I had went whale watching for hours with nothing to show before. Good for you for catching such a gem.

Not sure what that circular thing is neither.
Forgot to put the focal length on...it is at maximum extension of my Sony RX10 so it would be 600 mm...beyond what my naked eyes can see.
It might be the stem of a bloom after all the petals had fallen off ???

74 Aug 20 Comment Great candid shot. The mood of intense communication is well captured.
Yes, cell phone is camera of the future in my opinion.
Actually, a camera is a computer who can take pictures .
As soon as I make up my mind to up-grade to a cell phone that will take RAW I think that it will be my major camera .
A camera that you have at hand is the best camera .
There are halos around the ladies faces in the colored image but that really show up in the BW version.
I might want to tone down the overall crispness of the whole image.
Great use of the table...can crop off part of the table leaving only room for the caption?
For cropping I would put the 2 ladies at the 2 third lines using rule of the third.
Thank you for sharing this great story with lots of textures with great dynamic range ( Both black and white points are very visible ) plus full range of grey.

74 Aug 20 Comment Great shot, Haru. Love all the fine detail and texture.
I think that this is a hibiscus. Most of them are red but pink is common too.
Personally I would darken the image a bit so that more texture will show up at the petals.
Yellow converts to a light tone so the end of the stigma seems blown out but I am sure that technically it is not. I try to remember to darken highlights so that texture can be seen. This is good but I am greedy.
I think that the wings of the bee? seems a bit too bright too. (This seems longer than the honey bees I am used to...I am a major bee photographer too because Macro is my other favorite.). May be it is a different specie .
I have no problem trying B&W in nature...I uploaded a water-lily this month too...Ha ha . I think that there are many many branches of arts and numerous interpretations of one single subject .
I am using the images I got from my water drop photography in abstract manipulations too.
I usually do not do the "norm" .
After I learn the fundamental rules of photography and editing, it is time for me to play and create...that is how new concept surface, right ?
I usually say this to newer members of my club when asked :
You do what you are told when you are a Novice or Intermediate comp member.... When you get to advance, you should MAKE the picture, not just to take it.
Sorry if I am too much of a rebel...Just want to have fun ! ! !
