It is very nice to see two presentations of the same image and to enjoy both versions. We are all artists and are free to express ourselves in our own way. I definitely like the texture and backgrounds of both images compared to the original.
A big thank you to Charles for having the dedication and time to help us all. I learnt how to focus stack in this group around 2 years ago with Charle's help .
Shall look at it again to refresh my learning of this topic. |

Very nice colors. A job well done ! ! !
I fully understand that sometimes it is the choice of taking an image from far away or none at all.
I own a Fuji 100-400 mm lens with a 1.4 converter that yield good telephoto wild-life images.....Do I carry it around all the time ??? You must be kidding !!!
Now my favorite camera is a Sony RX !0 that shoot raw up to 600 mm and Jpeg at 1200 mm . It does have a smaller sensor but remember this : The camera that you will carry with you is the best camera !! ( I am really not a Sony salesperson..LOL ) |

This image is very rich in color and texture.
I agree with Charles about the balance. I my eyes , an area will less going on will need to be much bigger to compare to an area that is busy. I like the diagonal lines so would keep that side with much less of the left side for balance.
Very interesting view of something we do not usually see with naked eyes. |

Thank you very much for being so interested in my work. The most common basic 2 drops collision look like an umbrella . When you look at the top of this stem here it is not attached to the burst on top . If I can compare this to bird photography, the umbrella is like a bird on a stick. This is like a bird who is starting to take off . More advanced setting will have collision higher up that form different patterns.
A machine allow me to adjust drop(s) size and the delay of the flash . In my humble management of manual system this flying stage will be impossible for me to achieve without a machine. Hope to see more water drop images in this group.
Charles has a very impressive gallery so I am really counting on his help here. |

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I was thinking of putting this image on a white mat after darkening the main color a bit but after reading this I shall try to darken the edge with a coffe color adjustment brush to see what we can figure out. |

The original color was red liquid with a white background.
The red color get washed out and you can change it to whatever you want in Lightroom ( White Balance or HSL )or in PhotoShop (adjustmnt layers) . With non-organic subjects, the color can be change in many many ways...the sky is your limit. One exception is the color white...I used to change outfit colors but find that white will not change in RGB ( Except that if you paint another color on it but that is not really changing the color itself ). However, if you use LAB mode in PS then while can be changed. Once you make that one change then you can change it to anything. |

Thank you for the advice.
Actually with the water machine we do not get too many spills but the droplets do splash around. I enclosed the stand and the floor with shower curtains and plastic table cloths and tarps so that I can either wash them after a while or replace them. |

Thank you very much for the kind words.
I have a machine that will release drop(s) on demand and the flash will go at a specific time after the drop.
I had reversed the speed and flash duration above : Correct speed is 1/6 with 4 flashes at 1/128 seconds. The flash speed need to be low because higher power flash last longer and might not catch crisp images . That is why multiple flashes are needed.
I am trying to work out a way to trigger all 4 flashes in burst mode..may be the multi function in the flash while the camera is in burst mode ? So far the machine only send out one signal at a time. Anybody who know electronic please help. Thank you in advance .

Sorry that I am so late in coming in.
Had tried to come in 2 weeks ago but suddenly heard about a 5 days Dave Cross webinar followed by a 7 days Sue Bryce Webinar had me going in 200% capacity. (Besides the macro and monochrome groups in PSA editing and portraiture are also my main interest ).
Thank you very very much for all the kind words and suggestions. |

Thank you very much, Ata . It is a lakeside and different vegetation give many different views.
I use Lightroom and Photoshop for my post processing but I only used my basic workflow here because it is not meant to be a competition piece. We are discouraged to do too much editing for a stock photo so that the end user can edit it anyway they like. This is a sunrise shoot. We usually get there around 30 minutes before sunrise and start shooting bracketed shots with tripod. Usually 3 shots 2ev apart are sufficient. When it get brighter we take the 3 shots hand held for more freedom of composition. When this shot was made, it was bright enough to go to single hand held shots. When the sun is fully up we go around to get macro insect images . Before people get to work we would have a few shooting settings and breakfast together all done. Really looking forward to be able to do the same in the near future.
For landscape the golden aperture for me is between f8 to f11. If you choose your focus plane correctly ( usually 1/3 into the scene unless you are using hyperfocal distance ) there is no need to use a higher f number . Going higher than f11 your image will be softer because of diffraction.
I enjoy sunset photography too. Bracketing also help starting from handheld slightly before sunset because the darker exposure will have more intense colors . When it get darker tripod will need to be used with longer exposure . Car trails and moon light only landscape are great fun too.
If you increase your ISO you can calculate how long it will take to get a nice exposure . The only thing that stop me from doing moon light landscape a lot is the fight with mosquito armies at that time . LOL ! ! ! |

The monochrome version is much more moody than the original.
The contrast of light and shadow create a very dramatic scene. |

A very interesting subject and lots of texture and detail.
Personally I would include a small piece of the sky to let me know what I am looking at.
Usually landscape orientation spells serenity and portrait orientation suggest tension /danger.
It might be worth while to try different crops to see what are the results.
Second though : if you crop out the sky then may be you can rotate the image before cropping ? |

Great story.
I would recommend cutting down the top of the car just a bit but leave the wheel and a bit above it because I see the dents on the car that also spell hard time. Part of the highlights in the car can be tone down to decrease attention to non-important parts.
Monochrome is definitely better to tame the red jacket . |

Very nice image.
Ying did a great job.
I would suggest cropping in a bit from the right so that the same width of pillar are left on both sides.
Were you standing in the middle ?
It seems that the angles down the hall are not symmetrical on both sides ?
I usually bracket 3 shoots in aperture priority in churches because it will give me more choice in post just in case I need to merge them.
Thanks for sharing. |

Great work, David.
I echo the suggestions about the tone of the hands.
I see that in the colored version the neck is actually darker than the left hand and you had recovered the tone really well.
Ying did a great job with the left hand but the tone look not the most natural. Probably because he only have a very small file to work with.
Skin tone have lots of orange and I would suggest to increase the luminosity of orange in the hands before your conversion to BW which might help to raise contrast of skin to sea .
I also like your crop better because I think that the splash at the bottom is important and your crop let the surfer reside at the intersection of line of thirds.

Thank you everybody for you kind suggestions. Just to let you know that I usually accept and appreciate all your recommendations . This time I like to make my reasoning known because of the mood I like and that it is a stock image ( Sorry, I should have made that know ahead of time )
Stay safe and keep having fun ! ! ! |

Thank you very much for your very kind way of making suggestions.
Controlling black and white point actually come as second nature to me both in Lightroom and PhotoShop .
I had left the bright spots by choice because of the mood of the image and for the final user to express their artistic choice .

Thank you very much for your kind words and suggestions.
Please see my other post re composition and editing.
Usually I set my white point and go down a bit (below 240) because I know that if texture cannot be seen then most people will think that the area is blown out. However, I make the sun an exception because I feel that the mood is more important in this case. Sorry, you can see from all my past posts that I always accept suggestions but I also like my artistic view to be known about this image. |

Thank you very much for your kind words and great example. This really show that one image can be interpreted in many different ways . That is the fun of monochrome, is'nt it ?
Bill Foy said that he see "Haunting" and this is exactly what I see in yours. Your version is much more dramatic but being a sunny person I still like my version because both color and BW versions say "Hope" to me. Let's use this time indoor to enjoy family and photography together because there is Hope !!! |

I thank all of you for your great suggestions.
Please allow me to share my favorite composition that I seldom see in this group .
Long before I can name composition rules I will take images that look like this because " this look good to me"
Later I learn that this is "Golden ratio ". Each line divide the image into roughly 1:1.6 . One way to visualize it is the location of 5 o'clock on a clock face . I also like how the vegetation form a diagonal line down and the apex is close to the grid intersection before turning up again.
Since this image was posted here, I had received 3 lots of donations to this image from Pixabay. 2 lots of $5 USD and a 20 euro . I had never paid close to any of the amount for an image myself.
Being a 4 years old image, the viewer have to flip quite a few pages before this is visible. I hope that this "Hope" image really will be used to raise the spirit of many many more.
This is also a "Stock photo" although payment is not needed. Originally I submitted to the site partly to learn the rule of stock photography because they must pass a panel before accepted for use.
I usually allow some leeway when shooting so I just uploaded the original because the site discourage more than basic editing so the the final user have more choice. |
