65 Jun 19 Comment Thank you very much, Charles.
This is a white peony that has a yellow center. The white petals form a great background and make the capture possible because the bee hover inside the bloom in mid air so it is not at very high speed .

65 Jun 19 Reply Thank you very much for sharing, Oscar. Yes, I do like some movement. However, if I slow the shutter speed more then the whole bee will be blurry. I tried 1/4000 sec and the wings are still blurry so I think 1/1000 is a good speed for now. Jun 12th
65 Jun 19 Comment Very interesting subject. Love how the compass is laid diagonally across the image. Personally I am used to seeing a wider depth of field so that more of the image is in focus .
May be most of the face of the compass ? I think I am having problem because I cannot pin-point where is the plane of focus. It seems to be from the left lower third to follow the hand that point upward to the right but it does not extend beyond the compass itself . May be I am just old fashioned. The color is very soothing to the eyes .

65 Jun 19 Comment My first thought was : Are the bloom real or made of plasticine ? Although this is a group of 4 instead of an odd number it is very pleasing to the eyes . Just go to show that rules can be broken sometimes. Love the different colors and textures.
Love the arc and the placement of the blooms. Nature really know what is best ! ! !

65 Jun 19 Comment Lots of details here and great focus.
Lovely interplay of light from the right and shadow at the left. The many different metalic hue and height of screw ( tracks ?) make a very interesting image too .

65 Jun 19 Comment Very interesting and unusual shape. Lynne, you have given us a look that we seldom see.
I am curious as to how the image was lighted. If the light is from the bulb then the rays should come from the top ?
If we are seeing external lighting how come most of the brighter parts are inside the two vertical filaments ?

74 Jun 19 Reply Actually it is much easier to use a grey background . You can get, grey, black and white backgrounds out of it . You can also use gel to change its color....you can do this only with grey .

74 Jun 19 Comment Hi Alicia. Thank you for your kind words.
This photo shoot was in my small home studio.
I had tried both strobes and constant lights and find constant lights much easier to use because what you see is what you get. Strobes are stronger but it is more difficult to predict the final outcome ( shadows ) . With action shots, other problems are the recharging time that I still cannot find the correct device to keep up with my burst mode ( I was told that they exist but had not find it yet).; plus the extra space the model need . Because of the limited space I do not have light for the background that I can hide with a moving model . For still shoots I had shine a light at the background to create a high key background . These 3 set ups seem Ok to investigate . .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFF2dOXyNuM

74 Jun 19 Comment Thank you very much, Arne.
We are here to learn so any suggestion is great . I do a lot of compositing so this images is a prep for the future. ( Sorry I did not have time to put in a proper background . It is good to develope a tough skin because if one cannot take criticism they will never learn.
I had took the PSA analaysis course and another judging course so I know the importance of constructive criticism but I fully understand that this method of giving critique is not high on everybody's agenda.
Thanks for the help once again.

74 Jun 19 Reply Thank you very much, Pamela,
The dancer is in mid air because she was jumping up.
This is an action shot hence the reason I used 1/800 sec.

74 Jun 19 Comment I like this image very much.Lots of true black, true white and in between. Blue can become either dark or light and I like the choice here. Jun 12th
74 Jun 19 Comment To me, the color image is daytime while the monochrome is night. It shows how different colors imply different mood.
Love the texture of the fur. Would more contrast create a different mood ?

74 Jun 19 Comment I like the monochrome version much better because the red wall detract from the attention to the wheel. This is one reason that we want to make the conversion. The hue/saturation is nicely done because usually red come out dark in monochrome.
Love how the texture of the wheel spokes contrast with the grass and plain wall.

74 Jun 19 Comment Great cropping and definitely better in monochrome.
Wonderful detail of eyes and feather.
Wonder if increasing contrast of the feather will create more impact ?

74 Jun 19 Comment Nice image with a story .
I like the composition with a light flare and the tree at line of third. Nice detail in the building and mini lights.
Wonder if more true black other than the power lines will increase the impact ?

74 Jun 19 Comment Thank you very much, Raquel.
The background was white but unless you light it very well it will not come out completely white.
The easiest way to extract a whit background is to go to PS.
Duplicate copy. Use level adjustment layer to increase tone of white until the background is a uniform tone ,then it is easy to extract the white background with magic wand, quick selection or colour range .
