65 Jul 18 Reply Thank you very much for your kind words.
The color droplets are on the outer edge of the petals.

I had done another trial before this one. It turn out great but the droplets on the inside had merged into a giant drop and created the reflection of the soft-box I used.
Hence I avoided spraying the center of the bloom.

These images were created before I got my light tents so next time I hope that the limitation will be gone.
Bought a 60in X 60in light tent ( Yes, 5ftX5ft) for my splash photography and eliminated all the reflections of stuffs in my garage. Best 60$ CAD I had spent ( after the PSA membership ) for a long time.

65 Jul 18 Comment Thank you very much for the explanation.
Good lighting is a very important part that I am trying to learn.
Hope that the light tent will help with macro and still life.
Thank you for the vast amount of opportunities in this group.
Have a great vacation in August.

65 Jul 18 Comment Another great shot and feast for the eyes.
Love the translucent blue and green beads contrasting with the frosted purple and light brown beads.
All beads in sharp focus and clear.
The lighting seems very even and there is no visual direction of light . Is this shot using diffused light?
Is it possible for you to let us know your light setting ?
( I know it is natural light but how do you make the lighting so even ? )
Can see a few bright spots on the beads ; does the light come from the front ?
What is the reflective surface that the beads are on ?
Thanks for giving us goals to work towards .
We can really learn loads by just looking at one of your images.

65 Jul 18 Comment I like the retro look of the pendant .
Can see that there is not much room at the lower right edge but if the pendant is moved there so that it is in better light may be we can see the detail better ?
50 mm lens and an extension tube make it a longer focal length. 1/50 sec but the image is sharp.
Congratulation for having a steady hand !

65 Jul 18 Comment Love the darker reflections under the seeds.
I am new to focus stacking but the major thing I noticed is the long time it take to process the slices in PS. I did not dare to focus stack using RAW files although I did shoot in both RAW and Jpeg. May be I was overdoing it by using 100 or more slices ?
My concentration is in the quality of the slices. Using the histogram , I made sure that there is no spike at either side before shooting . I am blessed with cameras that show me the histogram before the shots are taken but a test shot can be use as the same tool. My goal is to expose to the right ( because the brighter part contain much more information than the darker part ) but to make sure that nothing is overexposed because those loses can never be recover.
A light tent or diffused material ( the center of a diffuser or a lacy curtain )can yield softer light .
I recently bought several light tents from Amazon . They come in various sizes and cost about one dollar per inch. Eg.. a 24inches X 24 inches would cost around $25 Canadian dollars...would be much cheaper in the states. It does not cost much more than home made and they work great.
Love the heart shape and the reflections ! ! !

65 Jul 18 Comment Great focus and clarity of this slug. Very interesting subject.
I shoot fast moving creatures such as bees, flies, hornet and butterflies using my telephoto lens all the time. ( Does not like to use macro lens because of the difficulties of changing focal length to get the insects in focus). High speed burst mode gave me the best result. I do not chase them around...Just wait until they land on an area that I can focus fast enough. The high speed usually yield sharp enough images for me. Used to use flash to freeze the motion but now find that the difference is not big enough to give up the many poses I can get by using burst mode instead.
The slug is in very sharp focus so it will be very easy to isolate in PS and darken the background a bit. In Lightroom it would be even easier to use the adjustment brush to do the darkening.
Once again, love this unusual detail image of a creature we seldom see up close.

65 Jul 18 Comment Nice shot of this blue gem. It is interesting to see the different shades of blue and white. Love the diagonal orientation of the gem.
Not sure whether you used your LED flashlight as light painting ?
One idea that come to my mind is to use a gray or black background to minimize the tone difference so that the deep blue color can be raise more to enable more detail to show.
In Lightroom if you use the basic panel, HSL, adjustment brush and tone curve combined you can raise the tone of the deep blue by raising the shadow. Increasing the contrast will intensify the spread in tone even more. ( Sorry, I am better in editing than photography )
Really enjoy to see this lovely gem .

65 Jul 18 Comment Thank you very much, Mr. Ginsburgh.
The primers you sent are really helpful and I really enjoy learning it. This open a whole new world for me and helps to establish a new goal for my new club year .
Thanks again.
