It is really a beautiful shot. I just made the assumption it was on a new background. So much better it was not. |

I can't wait to shoot them again this year. The hunt is as exciting as the find. They are so tiny it really strains the eyes looking for them. |

That lens is sharp. It takes the most beautiful macro images. I need to use it more this year since my D850 focus stacks within the camera. It should make a nice combo for macro. |

I can't remember how far back I was. My lens focuses 1:1 at 5.9 inches. Stepping back like I might have done at more than 2 feet will lessen magnification, but works to increase DOF. These frogs are as tiny as a thumb nail, so they was rather slender too. The left leg was totally out of focus. I really don't suffer much with ISO since I used filtered flash so I had plenty of light.

I agree with Mervyn on the out of focus branch. The lighting is even, but also a little flat. I like that you have the bird grabbing a berry. |

I purposely chose f4 and it had nothing to do with ISO. My D850 handles high ISO. I was going for artistic rather than sharp throughout. |

I like your edit and suggestion to dodge the wings. I might note the very faint halo from the selection and putting it on a dark background. |

I too like the backlit detail and tone. These are hard shots to get without that belly shot look. I think the unique angle and backlighting keeps it looking like a typical belly shot. |

It is pleasing in all that color. I do like the choice of backlighting the shot. I think I would have avoided the Topaz look though. This image would stand well without it. |

Nature of the beast in a way with macro. My camera can focus stack if on a tripod, but this was handheld because you have to crawl in where the frogs reside. Even a monopod could not be used. I happen to like the art of a macro shot, so I say away from letting my camera stack the images. |

I like the way the clouds swing back by the sun. The white of the sun is rather large in the frame though. Beautiful colors and lighting. |

The reflection is a nice touch. The low angle is excellent. It is centered and that is a less than optimal composition. Also this is a birdbath, and it is more advantageous to have it in a natural stream. |

Thank you, Alton. I posted it because of the twigs. Many would think them distracting and I like how they frame the owl, so I threw it out there for opinions. Also, the owl is looking up. That can also be a concern. Funny I am critiquing my own work, but these are obvious issues to some. |

Very nicely captured. Sharp where it needs to be, and action indicated by both the pose and the blurred wings. Good lead room. Lighting is well done also. I do like that the background tone and color work well. |

I love the mood that the foreground gives the image. I would really like the eagle to be more sharp at 210mm. Difficult conditions though. The colors in the shot are very pleasing too. |

The action is well captured, surprised it is 1/8000 and not a bit sharper. Also, the snow should be brighter and less grey. I am not sure a vignette is necessary. |
