69 Feb 19 Reply That lighting is so soft and wonderful. I was fortunate for that. Feb 9th
69 Feb 19 Reply That is very poetic. Feb 9th
69 Feb 19 Reply You are right about sharp focus on the males. They are more difficult because of lack of contrast. Feb 9th
69 Feb 19 Reply I am surprised about cropping. On a pro site, they expressed wanting more flight and head room. Feb 9th
69 Feb 19 Reply I appreciate your comment, but the bird needs a launching point. The pose determines it needs to lift from somewhere. Feb 9th
69 Feb 19 Reply Brenda, no post on this. It was the early morning lighting. The eyes are what I focused on, hence sharp. Lighting is the key. Feb 9th
69 Feb 19 Comment A very close portrait. Is it a rehab bird? The beak and right eye are tack sharp, but the left side, focus falls off. I think when this close, it is best to have the whole of the bird all in focus. It appears you were a bit too close, where even closing down the aperture would not have helped. Feb 1st
69 Feb 19 Comment It is a pretty, colorful image of an interesting subject. It is over processed in my opinion. The halos/fringing on the trees is an indication. I would suggest selectively toning down the foreground as well. Feb 1st
69 Feb 19 Comment I like having foreground elements. I do wish you included a bit more of the plants. It is a beautiful scene with great gradations of tone and color. The boat is unrecognizable as a boat, but was assumed to be one. That can work two ways. One as a distracting element, or one to make the viewer stay within the image, perking their imagination. Feb 1st
69 Feb 19 Comment I like your image composition. I like the moody haze. Those two bright white spots of snow are distracting to the scene. They appear unnecessary to the scene, so maybe eliminate them. The snow in the back is more recognizable as snow, so that is fine. Feb 1st
69 Feb 19 Comment A nice portrait. I would selectively brighten the face to bring the viewer to the target - the eye. The background is a bit busy, so it is better to wait until the bird finds a more open branch in which to perch. The one twig intersecting the upper breast is unfortunate. Feb 1st
69 Feb 19 Comment Probably not. It has a lot of background noise. I would have taken focus stacked shots (my D850 can take them by itself when set to do so) or had my camera on a tripod and snapped off a few shots to combine. I know that is difficult shooting these insects during the day. I usually look for them early morning and late evening, when the cold and dew keep them immobile. Feb 1st

77 Feb 19 Reply Beanbag in the car. 150-600 @ 600mm . Thank you. Feb 1st
77 Feb 19 Comment Very good feather detail and sharp eye. I would suggest giving the subject more head room. It avoids the frame from compressing down on your subject. Feb 1st
77 Feb 19 Comment A nice portrait and reflection. I would suggest, next time, try for a lower perspective. That will give less of the water as a background and a possible sense of the coastline. This gives a more intimate view of the subject and a sense of the habitat. Laying down on the shore will help get this POV, as will getting in the water which I doubt you would do. Feb 1st
