Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
49 Dec 17 Comment I love the mood of foggy sunrises and sunsets. You captured the light beautifully. I like the balance of the cropped image but also like the triangular tops of the buildings on the left. I would crop it from the right which would also eliminate the big gap between the buildings on the far right and the others. You can then adjust the exposure, and saturation for more brightness and color if you prefer. Dec 29th
49 Dec 17 Comment I'm not a fan of fish eye but I love the effect you captured here. I feel like my face is about to be licked when I look at this image. In the example below, I cropped it tighter to remove the circle but had to do a little clone-stamping on the bottom and top right corners to get rid of them without losing any of the dog. Dec 29th
49 Dec 17 Comment Cropping the image from the right to give it a portrait orientation would improve the composition. It's a shame about the head in front of the hands. In the example below, I lowered the luminance level of the red in Camera Raw to darken the background, but it also darkened her lips and cheeks; it would have been better to make a selection first and apply the filter only to the background. I added a vignette to reduce the distraction of the head in the corner. Dec 29th
49 Dec 17 Comment I wouldn't change a thing. I love the mood and simplicity of the image. I disagree with Fred about cropping the left because I like the curving lines created by the surf against the sand. If anything, I would have stepped back to get a wider capture on the right and to reduce the size of the structure. Dec 28th
49 Dec 17 Comment I agree with Fred and Alan about a tighter crop. I would crop down the top to just above the fence and crop from the left to just right of the closest bison. That would give you three of them with an increasing distance which creates a nice diagonal. A lower shooting angle might have helped if you could get low enough to eliminate the crowd and the roof, but not sure if this was possible with the fence. Dec 28th
49 Dec 17 Comment I agree with all the above. Great composition and perfectly tack sharp for a long exposure. Which tripod do you use? Dec 28th
49 Dec 17 Reply I used a high shutter speed due to the motion of the boat. That made a high ISO necessary and also the use of noise reduction software. I sharpened it with Topaz detail in attempts to reduce the softening caused by noise reduction. Dec 28th
49 Dec 17 Comment Thanks for the comments. I agree with the suggestion to crop the rights side. Alan, a long exposure would not have worked due to the motion of the boat. Instead of an ND filter, I opened up the shadows to brighten the foreground and made a selection of the sailboat and desaturated it to make it whiter. Personally, and it's a matter of taste, I would not want to smooth out the water (I hate images of waterfalls that look like cotton candy falling off the side of a mountain). Dec 22nd
