Thanks for your thoughts and comments Butch. You and I differ greatly in our photographic philosophies and that's a good thing, because we are all different and our craft is extremely subjective. For me, the title of any photograph is secondary, just words that are really unimportant, when the image itself is what it's all about. What captured my attention in this moment and caused me to lift my camera, was in fact the trees. Quite dead, growing out of the water, with their days numbered before they succumbed to the water and gravity. Next to them, living grass, and behind them living trees (and yes, a couple of distracting items as well) but that was the scene as we passed by. It's curious to note that this has printed up very well indeed and everyone I show it to love the dead trees. As I said, we are all different and that is a good thing. No-one is right and no-one is wrong. |

Congratulations on a superb image Butch. I always say it's great when a plan comes to fruition. If you go out with the purpose of catching a storm, then catching one at its peak is a great reward. While you (or any photographer) has any control over the weather and conditions at any given moment, you have captured the elements before you very well. |

Congratulations on a superb image Ray. Your capture, processing and presentation are all first rate. The B&W with its tonal range doesn't detract from what I imagine the colour scene would look like. While I acknowledge Butch's comments and alternate crop, I don't mind your original version as you have presented it. The more rocks shown in the bottom right corner, balances with the hoodoo (never heard a rock formation called that before) and those clouds on the right add another element to the scene. |

This is a great image Sherry and I both agree and disagree with Butch. The colours in the sky are magical and command our attention. Your inclusion of the trees also works well. Now, the sandy foreground. Yes some of it could be removed without weakening the image in any way, maybe half way above your name and the grass. But not all of it, as in Butch's vf. In my mind, an image needs a base to sit on, in this case that's the sand. Without the sand I'm asking myself "What's there, below this scene?" "Why is it chopped there?" In my mind, the sand "completes" this scene and image. |

A great piece of street photography and social documentation Trey. Your original capture is solid and your processing does it justice to bring it to this level. Converting to B&W helps remove all that brightness in the background which would become distracting from the people. Good story telling and interaction with the participants. |
