A superb image Nelson, and your use of a slight blue tone brings this one to life. Yes, it is a busy image, but it is also a busy scene and you have captured and presented it very well. |

A great image Phu. Using the fence as a "window" to look through and see the scene is a good use of imagination and provides depth. |

Tatu, I really enjoy exchanging images with you, me down her in Oz and you up there in Finland, and all the other group members of course. You have used the elements in this scene to good advantage and produced a great image. |

Congratulations on a great image Debbie. The lighthouse and palms really stand out and grab our attention. My only concern, and I'm being super picky, is that the horizon at the water level looks just a little off. |

You know me Sherry, I like to stretch people and pull them out of their comfort zones, especially camera club judges!! All in a good way of course. I fully appreciate infrared is not everyone's cup of tea, but it can be a fun way to look at scenes differently. Just as a hint, a white egret would look pretty good in infrared. |

Thanks for your comments Larry. This was one of those locations where a photographer can be challenged and need to work around those challenges. This turf farm is private property, as many of them are, so we were standing against the fence line and could not get any closer to the trees. Yes, we might have been able to ask the owner, but they were nowhere in sight. Could have used a longer lens to bring the trees closer, but then the black sky wouldn't be in the image. So as in all forms of photography, a compromise had to be found. |

Thanks for your comments Gary. IR photography is one of those genres that is similar yet different to other genres. One must mentally see what is going to happen with the final image, and that is most of the fun. |

Thanks for your comments Butch, which are always appreciated.
The story behind this image for me is just the time of day and the IR nature of the overall scene. While I appreciate the need for a center of interest, sometimes I just like to let my eyes wander over and around in a scene, maybe just taking in the location as a whole. |

Thanks for your comments Ray. For me, an important part of infrared photography is the way it turns a blue sky black. It also turns pale green foliage white. The reason I kept that part of the sky in is to show the "blackness" of infrared which in my mind is balanced by the shadow in the foreground. One thing I really enjoy about working with IR is learning to look at a scene through "Infrared eyes" and understanding how certain elements within the scene are going to appear in the final image. I'm glad you might be venturing down the IR path and look forward to seeing what comes out of your endeavors. Enjoy the journey. |

I've just had a play with cropping down to what I see as the nuts and bolts of this image. I always ask myself "Will this image be weakened in any way if this is cropped out?" Do you have any thoughts? |

I agree with the others about the foreground. Sometimes negative space can help an image, but in this one it asks more questions than it answers. I too am having troubles with that shape on the left. Cropping that out would not weaken the image at all. |

A great composition Gary. Very well balanced and great use of the elements before you. Your shutter speed selection is excellent and brings just the right amount of movement to the water flow (in my opinion anyway). That is always a very subjective item open for opinion in any image. Your conversion to B&W is fine as it forces us to focus on the detailed textures. |

This is a very strong image Ray. I find the colour pallet quite harmonious, causing this to become a peaceful scene, despite the harsh nature of the area as implied by the cracked ground. Although this is an image with simple composition and definitely not a cluttered or busy image, it is one that the viewer (me anyway) does not get tired of looking at. |

Congratulations on a great image Butch. One challenge we face as photographers is to make our images stand out from the crowd. I've never been to mainland USA (only a four night stay in Hawaii while on a cruise), but I've seen countless images from Monument Valley and similar. Your composition here is first rate and lifts your efforts above the crowd. |

Two things for us to consider this month Sherry. Firstly and most importantly is your advising that you intend to step down as our admin. I thank you for all your service to group 73 since it began and also the wonderful comments you have provided. Secondly this image, I only have two thoughts:
1) I wish I took it & 2) I wish it was hanging on a wall in my home. |
