Thanks for your comments Debbie. This year I'm on a mission to improve my post processing skills and local adjustments is right up there on the wish list. |

A very interesting image and story Tatu. I'm assuming February must be winter for you, because down here in Australia, it's the final month of our summer. I'd love to see this scene in your summer when those trees are full of their foliage and leaves, although the buildings would be substantially hidden. I agree with Debbie, cropping the right side of this one would not detract from the image at all. |

Yes, definitely picture worthy Debbie. It is your image and you are free to take and present it anyway you choose, but can I ask a few questions please? That empty dirt are in the foreground, is it necessary for this image to work? Could it be cropped out and the image be made a little pano? Or could it be taken from a slightly lower point of view to reduce the empty area, bending the knees if possible, for example? I'm just thinking out loud. |

Some people might call this a busy image Lauren, but your showing us the overall environment is very effective. |

Thanks for your comments Sherry. Yes it was as early rise, but the resultant photos made it very worthwhile. Another photographer who lives at Forster joined me during the sunrise and said he goes to this beach every morning to capture the sunrise. |

Thanks for your comments Butch. I appreciate your thinking and changes, but. sometimes I prefer to show and see images with their softer pastel tones, not all images need to have punch. Rule of thirds, along with many other "rules" are considered "guidelines" by myself and many friends of mine. Sometimes in our photography, which is just basically and art form that is open to many interpretations and opposing thought, near enough can be good enough, especially when we want elements in our images to not be crowded and have a little space around them. Again, I do thank you for your thoughts. |

This image has a good story Butch. A coastal scene with a healthy wind blowing, both at ground/sea level and also up in the clouds. Good colours and composition. Very well done. |

Another very strong image Peter. Your composition and use of colours in the scene are made better by your processing. I'm going to respectfully disagree with Butch, I don't mind the wind turbines. |

It might be just a memory for you Dave, but for me it's a great image of an area I only read about or see on tv. Your use of scale is good and presentation in pano format suits this scene very well. |

Hahaha, yes I missed that issue. I'm thrilled to see it has done well in a charity auction. It's really good to see your photography going to a good cause and also appreciated by other people. If you're going to fix that masking issue at the top of the antenna, why not those other ones either side of the lighthouse, just while you're at it. |

This is a great image Gary. It's a sight we generally don't see down here. Your conversion to B&W is effective and I do like the addition of NIK's tonal contrast in Butch's VF version. It does bring a lot more punch and detail to this one overall. |

A great image Sherry. I'm sorry Butch, but I'm going to respectfully disagree with you on this one. When reading left to right, I feel the lighthouse staff looking out to sea, from left to right. I also expect communication to be by both light and radio, so the antenna for me serves a very valuable use and is an integral part of lighthouses of these days. Sunrise colours (and sunsets) often have times of pastel shades and don't always need to pop. Pastel colours can bring a sense of calm to an image. But they are just my thoughts and not intended as to argue with Butch. Our craft of photography is a wonderful and versatile thing, with none of us being right nor wrong, we just see things differently. |

Thanks for your comments Jay. Yes I particularly liked the reflections on the water. Many photos were taken this morning, with just moving the tripod a few meters after each series of shots. |

A great travel image Sanford, full of the character of the location. Use of colours and composition are all well handled, although I do agree that a little touch of contrast would help this image. |

Another strong image Trey, with excellent framing looking in through the open door. Yes, I agree b&w is the way to go with this one. Itis also good the way your tones have maintained a metallic look to certain details. |

This is a great image Henriette. Your patience in waiting to capture the bird in the right pose at the right moment has paid off very well. I myself would not have thought to present this images as an infrared, but I'm certainly glad you did. The egret stands out nicely from the surrounding foliage and as Trey mentioned, the square format really suits this one well. Congratulations. |

Another superb image Gordon. I'll agree ever so slightly with Trey about that reflection on the couch foot, mmmm, if it wasn't there, the couch would be floating in space somewhat. So the jury is still out for me on that. Dirtying up the couch, for me, was most definitely the way to go. I think the bluer tones it now has help it blend in much better with the overall tones of this scene. Sorry Trey. Congratulations on a great image taken in a way that may not have been most conducive for good photography. And my biggest applause goes to Elle who was able to look magic, even though she took out the Miss Goosebumps title. |

A great image Jay, I fully agree with Trey. I'll say what I'm thinking and it's just my opinion, but I'm really pleased to notice that you seem to be practising your photography with your final image firmly in mind before you press the shutter. Shooting "big" to capture your desired image together with all its extraneous stuff around the edges, and then presenting your viewers with the image you wanted them to see is a great way to go. Congratulations on a great job. |

Thanks for your comments Trey. I have always loved panos, especially 16x7's, as this takes me back to our old film days and the use of Fuji 6x17 medium format cameras. If you have a spare hour one rainy afternoon, google Ken Duncan and have a look around what comes up. You'll quickly see where I get my inspiration. At the time of capture, this image was deliberately under exposed so that the pastel colours of the sunrise would not blow out completely. As you know, it's easy to bring details back in shadows. I do 90% of my processing in LR, which is straighten horizons, spot removal, exposure, shadow & highlight adjustments, texture & clarity, sharpness. Then I send it into PS for cropping and any other work such curve adjustments if needed. With this one I also increased the saturation with the blue, red and yellow sliders, just to bring those pastels back to what I saw. But only enough to enhance the sky without going heavy on the water surface/reflection. Your version is fine and I appreciate your thinking, but I do like that little piece of the Pacific peaking in from the left, as it shows where the rocks end and imply there is more out that side. I am known by my friends to not be afraid of getting my feet and my tripod's feet wet for the sake of an image, but I wanted to include the rocks bottom right and the waves wouldn't come up that far on that morning. I did get other images a few yards to my right, for a different viewpoint. Perhaps in a couple of months I'll post one from there. |
