A very interesting portrait Nelson. I agree with Lauren in that the halo has an effect on the overall image. As long as you are happy with it, that's the main thing. Well done. |

A great "fun" image Lauren, showing a small part of a larger festival. Just a very minor detail, if you'd moved just a few inches to your right (if you were able to) the skeleton's artificial lower right leg would not be "absorbed" by the ship's mast and be more noticeable. Just a thought. |

A fine image Tatu, but I must agree with Lauren, the dark barge, seems a little lost on the dark water. If you crop this into a panorama, the resultant less bright foreground would "show" the barge more. |

A nice clean, simple image Stuart. The chairs are inviting me to stop, sit a while and enjoy the sun. A glass of red and a rock would be a great few moments of relaxation. Well seen, processed and presented. |

A great IR photo Debbie. All the elements have come together for you, even though you added in your own sky, which is perfectly allowable. Good use of foreground and background as well. |

A fine image Dhananjay, showing your fall colours. I do agree with Gary regarding the shadow area. Lightening that area could possibly help lift this one a bit. I also agree with Butch about those leaf fragments along the top edge. As they serve no purpose here, they should be removed. |

A very intriguing image Gary. Your composition and ability to bring out the colours in the rocks work really well. The spring water flowing over the rocks appears more of a veil than actual water. You've presented this image the way you wish it presented and it is effective. |

A strong image Dave that tells a definite story. Your use of a pano does show us more of the devastation. The green trees in the very background show us that all is not lost in this location. Nature will bring some trees and life back here, but it might just take a little time. After our devastating bush fires here a few years ago, it was really amazing to see the new life sprouting from trees such as these, in just a matter of 3 or 4 months. Your image shows us the cycle of life is always in motion. |

A very fine image Butch, congratulations. Yes, your horizon line is level, as you mention, that white line isn't the horizon. Your estimating your exposure time was good and effective, resulting in the pleasing water surface.
I also belong to two camera clubs down here. One is focused on creativity and education/development. In their meetings "comp" is a four letter word that is just not tolerated. The other is competition driven, where it seems the collection of points is more important than the actual photography. Some people there take great photos of various subjects, but have been doing the same thing for about the last three years now. In my mind, it's time for them to move on and try other subjects and techniques. They just continue to produce the same old, same old. They're happy to stay stuck in their rut.
And then one "judge" says "crop it", so they do and the next "judge" says "it needs more room to breathe". The club committee doesn't like us to challenge the judges. I'm not surprised I don't get any Christmas cards from the committee. When the judge asks if anyone has any questions or comments, my hand is usually the first one up.
Titles don't do much for me either. A viewer should be free to walk around an image or painting and discover what their eyes come across. Sometimes those little minute details tell their own story. If the Mona Lisa was called the Mona Mary or the Mona Catherine, would the painting be any less. I often enjoy going through a book I have by Ansel Adams, titled 400 photographs. His name says it all and 95% of his titles just give us a location.
But your photo is still a great one for you to be proud of. |

A superb image Peter, as always. The way you've presented it to us with some foreground detail, in what I imagine was a very dark area really completes this image. |

A great image Sherry. You know I love panos, but your edited version doesn't sit as well with me, as your main image does. My personal preference lies with your main image as you submitted. In my mind, the amount of foreground and background that you've chosen, is appropriate to show the barrenness of the Icelandic landscape. |

Congratulations on a superb image Gordon. The sharpness is first rate, as seen by the hairs on her legs. Yes, nature comps and their judges are very picky indeed. The way you've presented your final image is superb, albeit that issue with the background colours as Sophie has pointed out. As an image "for your own enjoyment" this is right up there. Very well done. |

Sophie, the sharpness in this photo is superb. While the lions themselves are beautifully sharp, I also like the sharpness an colours of the grass in front and around them. Wonderful use of depth of field, concentrating our attention on the lions, while also providing just enough blur in the background. Bravo indeed Sophie. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the Masai Mara. |

Light coloured horses with a light coloured background are the recipe for successful high key image. Your capture, processing and presentation are superb Sanford. As Gordon has mentioned, this is the best image you've produced. Now you just have to keep them coming. |
