73 Aug 23 Reply Thanks Dave, yes this area varies greatly with the times of day and weather conditions. Aug 25th
73 Aug 23 Reply Thanks Peter, a number a images that I'm happy with were the result of this morning shoot. Aug 25th

73 Aug 23 Comment A great celebration of colour Dave. As mentioned in my comments to Gary this month, my processing skills are sadly lacking, although I'm trying to remedy that. I'm seem to say that a lot.
While this is a good image, I would like to see the colours "pop" a little more. And just for the record, down here we spell color with a "u" and I refuse to misspell it just to keep some automated spellcheck happy.

73 Aug 23 Comment Our photography is a wonderful and diverse craft Dhananjay. None of us are any more wrong than others, or more right. We just have different thoughts and opinions. I fully understand where you are coming from with your intruder and his red headwear. Many would say red is the best colour, particularly if your want to draw your viewer's attention to that element in your image. To me, the star of this image is the bridge. The word "mystical" seems to be getting used in this group a lot this month. The bridge in the fog sits very comfortably in this theme. A small detail Dhananjay, or am I just weird? When I look at your whole image, I don't see the far bridge support on the other side. When I scroll the image so that the foreground, red headwear and all, disappear from the image, I instantly see that far bridge support !! But as has been said, a very strong image. Aug 20th
73 Aug 23 Comment All members in our group and many others as well, know infinitely more about post-processing than me, so I'm going to stay right away from that side of the discussions. The composition of this image Gary is very strong. The surface of the water tells us that it was relatively calm and what I imagine the size of the boat may have been, it should have been quite stable, moreso than a 10 foot dinghy. Very unfortunate about the scaffolding and tarps, but we get what we are given and buildings are constantly being maintained. All in all Gary, this is a great image and one you should be proud to show of your travels. Aug 20th
73 Aug 23 Comment Congratulations on a very strong image Sherry. Both subject and subject matter are great and tell a good story of this location. Your use of composition, colours and weather conditions are first rate. That white lightpole thingy, just above the treeline, just in from the right, I'll pretend I didn't see it, this time ;) Aug 20th
73 Aug 23 Comment Concept, pre-planning, capture, processing and presentation are all simply wonderful. I think many "happy snappers" would say something like too much wasted space in the sky, while photographers would say great use of negative space. Congratulations on producing another Petergraph. Aug 20th
73 Aug 23 Reply Thanks Dhananjay. Yes I had to chose between the top of the trees or the base of the reeds and their reflections. I chose the later. Aug 20th
73 Aug 23 Reply Thanks for your thoughts Gary. If you, or anyone else, want to venture over to group 76, you will find a very similar image, taken from a few yards to my left, where I have shot over the reeds in the foreground to produce a slightly different image. I chose this one for this group because I could use the usual foreground and background technique to hopefully add some depth into this landscape. Aug 20th
73 Aug 23 Reply Thanks for your comments Sherry. Yes, we have a good mixture of trees, some are evergreens that of course stay green all year round, while we have others that loose the leaves and become sticks in our winter. These make for good silhouettes. With the fog this particular morning, this scene was quite drab and I wanted to produce an image with that sort of mood and feeling. Aug 20th

76 Aug 23 Reply Thank you for your comments Trey, greatly appreciated. Aug 25th
76 Aug 23 Comment I fully applaud and support the work done by groups such as The Lions Club, Rotary and all the others. They and their members do incredible and very valuable work in our communities and deserve more recognition than they get. So I applaud you Trey, in supporting them with your photography skills together with any and all else you do. Like you, I am over competitions, but many other photographers sadly aren't. Hence, my question about it's purpose, when considering what can and can't be done with images entered into nature comps. My thoughts were only intended as a possible way to "clean up" the surrounding area before any possible similar images might be taken for a similar purpose. As you will know, removing un-necessary elements from any image forces the viewer's attention onto what the photographer wants them to look at. Calendars are a great way of presenting images, particularly when there is a thread or idea linking them all together. They them basically become a portfolio of images, which are a great passion of mine, rather than a stand alone image. Trey, keep up your great work with your photography and also with your Rotary and Lions clubs. Aug 25th
76 Aug 23 Reply Thanks Sophie, from memory, I have already given the opacity slider a very strong push to the right, then brought it back a little because I thought it overdid it with the trees and also brought a lot of noise into the sky. I have had it printed to A4 and am pleased with the result. Aug 20th
76 Aug 23 Reply Thanks for your comments Sanford, I was going for a sense of peace and serenity. Thankfully, our images remain silent, so you can't hear all the early morning traffic rumbling past behind me. Aug 20th
76 Aug 23 Reply Thanks for your comments Henriette. Yes, it's always beneficial to return to a location, particularly at different times of day and in different seasons, things are rarely the same each time. Aug 20th
76 Aug 23 Comment Congratulations on a very strong image Trey. As Henriette has said, your processing has really taken advantage of your focus stacking technique. The idea behind your thinking and the presentation of your final image are all to be applauded. However, I have some questions. Please understand Trey, they are only intended to improve your image making. 1 You have titled this image Three Purple Coneflowers, why then can I see a fourth? Plus two remnants from other flowers, that could be considered distracting. 2 What is your ultimate purpose for this image? As in a Nature comp? Because if that is your plan, I'm sure you are very well aware of how particular their rules can be. If not, at the time of capture, I would have done some gardening first. Those horizontal elements coming in from the left should have been removed, as well as those two coming up from bottom left. I only intend these as a possible way to promote thought. Lastly, I fully understand rule of thirds, leading lines, odd numbers etc etc etc etc. Two good friends of mine, one is a retired professor of photography and the other recently retired from judging international photo comps, by say and I fully agree with them, that if we all follow the same set of rules, wouldn't all our images be the same and become quite boring? Having said that, can I ask you, if there were only two purple coneflowers, would you still have taken and produced this image? But still, after all that it's still a very strong image. Aug 20th
76 Aug 23 Comment The line in the background doesn't bother me at all. On a dance floor there is always that line where the floor ends, we are very used to seeing it. Also, in a "staged" image as those produced in studios, we are also very used to seeing the models place on floor with a curved join to remove that line. So I will leave you to answer the question of where you want to place them, on a dance floor, or in a studio. Henriette's clouds is another possibility, but sorry, not one for me. Back to your image Gordon, your commentary implies you had a vision in mind before you pressed the shutter and that is my favorite part of photography, rather than just firing away at what appears in front of us. Again, your processing is superb, resulting in an image that oozes mood, atmosphere and story. Another superb image, from concept, through capture and processing to the end presentation. You should be very pleased with and proud of this one.

76 Aug 23 Comment This is a great image Jay. Your stacking of the image results in a great landscape that is sharp from the nearest point in the foreground to the furthest point in the background. Your composition is great, showing us both the base and top of the waterfall. The inclusion of the rocks provide a strong sense of location and the environment. While Sophie's alternate version provides another strong image, as she says, you are the photographer and will present this image however it pleases you. Both versions have their merit and are equal to the other. Sadly, you have presented yourself with a problem. As you've presented this image to us, there's no turning back. From now on, when you present future landscapes, we will always compare it to this one and if it's lacking.... Aug 19th
76 Aug 23 Comment What an incredible image Sanford. This type of final image all begins with the original capture. As Henriette and Sophie have said, your processing is first rate, you have left us with no doubt about what you want us to look at and that is an integral part of photography. Exposure, composition and presentation of your final image is all outstanding. I can just see many child viewers just standing in front on this one for ages. Congratulations. Aug 19th
76 Aug 23 Comment Sophie, I have no idea what you french people say, but down here, we aussies have a saying (among many) of "six of one, half a dozen of the other". I mean this in relation to your before and after images. To me, the angle of the rigging is not an issue, when we are there moving around the event, details like that change their angles as well. My attention is drawn to the performers. You have portrayed them extremely well, their action is very strong. As Sanford and Henriette have already said, you have caught the peek of the action, when there is one performer not touching anything or anyone. It's make or break for him. You certainly have a superb image here Sophie. Aug 19th
76 Aug 23 Comment Congratulations Henriette on a stunning image. The way you have presented it to us as a b&w is excellent. Not only does it suit this subject matter very well, it also takes me back to the landscapes we see from the 1950s and 60s, when b&w was all there was. Your tonal range is excellent as is your composing this final image. I would politely guess that you might have gone -1ev to stop the snow from blowing out too much. My only concerns are those 2 small areas of snow, one lower center, the other slightly left of center. Yes there were there and are part of the overall scene, but they are so small, to me, they are more of a distraction than a positive use. My second concern is those 2 dark spots to the left of the lower snow spot in the center, are they dust spots that could be removed? I know these are trivial issues, but I am just trying to help remove distracting imperfections from your and everyone else's images, should you wish to take your images further that our group. After all is said and done, this is still a superb image. Aug 19th
