Thanks for your comments Sherry, the whole image was nothing more than an exercise in controlling light with that filter in the very bright conditions, with the sole aim of smoothing the water. The bridge itself, is just one of our suburban bridges crossing the harbour, nothing special or historic about it, but as it's in the center of the frame, I fully understand where you are coming from. That building on the left, is actually what I focused the camera on, locked the focus and the re-composed the scene. Again, just some photographic fun with a seldom used filter, to see what might happen with it in the future. |

Thanks Dhananjay, I was just taking a general scene from our Sydney harbour, showing whatever was in front of me while experimenting with that filter in harsh sunlight. |

Thanks for your comments Tom, the whole thing for me was that exercise with the variable ND filter to affect the water at the extreme level of bright sunlight. Our art of photography is a wonderful thing, allowing us all to act on and comment our own thoughts. Yes, flowing water (to some extent for me) is what I try for, but I also quite like blurry clouds. Our differences are what make photography so good and subjective. |

A strong image Dhananjay with good use of sunset lighting. Compositionally strong and well captured. My only concern is that dust spot, above the cloud line to the right of the sun. Other than that minor detail, a great image. |

A great image Tom. Wonderful sharpness right through, from the near village to the distant mountains, and from left to right. No weak points to be seen anywhere. The colours and clarity in the mountains bring great detail and those clouds just go along for the ride. Great time of day and use of directional light. Definitely one to be hung on your wall. Congratulations. |

Another great image Peter. I agree with the others, those barrels have to go, definitely clone them out as Sherry suggests. With all respect to Tom, if you were to crop it as he suggests, the remaining portion of the street light in the center wouldn't look right to me, I need to see it all, where it meets the road. One part that does bother me, is the bottom right 25% of the whole image. I'm seeing a good amount of growth, possibly weeds rising into the a large portion of this image. To me, they make this quarter of the whole image appear dirty. Could they not have been broken or removed before you pressed the shutter? Were you so focused on the sunset and reflections in the background you just didn't see them? Many would have been. But a good sunset image just the same. |

A great image Sherry. I really enjoy your composition and use of the elements, very well balanced. Colour palette is good, particularly for the time of day. My thoughts - delete it? Never !!! It's helpful to revisit older images now and then for use of thinking "How can I do this better next time?" If this location is within easy reach for you, definitely go back often, at various times and try slight adjustments in technique. No two images will ever be the same. |

Thanks Sanford, many times I've been out with friends and when we look at each other's work, I used to wonder "Why didn't I see that?" |

A great image Trey, very strong. Compositionally, your chopping some of the foliage off on all four sides results in a well balanced image, in my humble opinion. Colour and lighting are first rate, angle of view is exceptional, you have shown us enough of the center and the petals to bring us as much depth as possible in a floral study. And your processing is also very strong. Kudos. |

An excellent image Sanford, and straight from the camera. People may talk about tight cropping, background and blue material, be it jumper or couch. Brody is definitely a fellow used to being indoors, so all those thing are part of his environment. One thing that is his alone is his character and that is all over his face. As an exercise in practising manual focusing, it is superb, great depth of field and sharp everywhere it's supposed to be. Very well done Sanford. |

What a great image Sophie, very strong indeed. I'm so glad you give them prints on your return visits, that is a great way to build up relationships, and also showing them the respect of not photographing them at inappropriate times. That takes you away from the happy snapper and towards "their photographer". While your choice of substituted background isn't bad, I also ask myself, "What others could you have used?" The lighting on your subject seems just not quite right with the background. I'm being very picky, but only with the good intention of helping you to improve, does the direction of light conflict with your choice of background? The shadow of the father's ear? There is also a hallow around the head, over processing? Other than these minor details, a simply wonderful image that I'm sure will be very well received on your next visit.

A superb image Jay. Very colourful and very creative. The time you spent in processing was well worth it, the bright punchy colours, the final cropping and composition are great. It would look great hanging on a wall and would definitely draw comments from any viewers. I also like your original, the pastel colours, while softer are also very good, their softness doesn't detract from the image or your concept at all. I would love to see the two images with the same cropping side by side. I feel both would be different in their own ways, but also both quite appealing. Very well done indeed Jay, congratulations. Just two after thoughts,
icm and creative images are not everyone's cup of tea, so be prepared for both positive and negative comments, and I find it curious that when people do icm's, it is generally with vertical movement. So, your next challenge should be horizontal, or dare I even suggest diagonal? After thought number 3, I never get tired of looking at this image. |
