A great image David, one of the American landscapes that we see so often down here in books and various ads. Your bringing out the shadows works really well and gives our eyes plenty to look at in this image. |

A beautiful image Peter. The colour palette, the time of day with the mist on the water all contribute to the mood of this image. The person sitting on the wharf and the boat give a good story and in my humble opinion, the rock bottom right is superbly placed compositionally, to provide one of your expected foreground objects that contributes greatly to the depth of this image. |

Thank you for your comments Sherry. As I mentioned to Carol, quite a few photos were taken at this time, and the rainbow was quite happy to just stay there and literally model for us. 15 or maybe even 20 minutes of photographic bliss. We even got back in the car and moved up the beach a couple of hundred yards for different angles. Some friends of mine have been to Iceland and I am so jealous. One day |

Thanks for your thoughts Carol. Quite a few images were taken at the time, some with land detail, some without. One taken of the other end has the rainbow coming down on a surfer paddling out to catch a wave. In this particular image I included the rocks to give a sense of place.

A nice image Carol, and of course an 8 week trip should result in several thousand images, that's what we photographers do. While your image is fine, I do think Sherry's pano version is stronger. Taking out a good amount of the water doesn't detract from the image, nor does it remove any essential element. It just forces us to look at the scenery and the sky more. I smile when I wonder "If I went to the USA, Canada or Alaska (yes I know it's one of your states) for 8 weeks and you or Sherry came down here for 8 weeks, who would bag the most shots? |

This is a fine image Debbie. For me personally, the shrubs provide a base for the image to sit on and provide a strong foreground silhouette, then my eyes go to the reflection in the middle ground and then the turbines and sky in the background. One thing I like to play around with is, when you have got your shot, throw a fair size rock into the water and then take some more shots with the ripples spreading out. You will get some more and different images from your friends, until they all start tossing rocks as well, but then the water just becomes a mess, and you will have the winner. |

A great image Sherry, and I'm sure a great memory for you. Your construction of this image and use of the elements is first rate, congratulations. The greens, browns and blues are excellent and yes that sky is just right, not too much cloud and not too little. Great depth as well. |

This is a very interesting image Sophie. It fills you with doubt and the location fills your sister with dread. I wonder why? But to your image. You say the colour may attract you, how do you feel about b&w? Does a little bit of Nik make you carcasses look more old and decrepit? So much can be done with this image. |

What a great nature shot Henriette. I hear many times that a nature shot should tell a story, and this one certainly does. It is definitely more than a duck floating on the water. Great image, great action with great detail and colour. And crisp and sharp. Very well done. |

A lovely warm image Trey. It all begins with a strong original capture. Your processing has greatly enhanced your final image, warming both the Fungi and also the tree. Very well done. |

Another very strong image this month Heidi. You state you wanted to produce an old world look to this image and you have certainly succeeded. Tight cropping, conversion to b&w, together with Nik, is there also a texture applied all combine to produce a great image. And of course the lighting is superb. |

This image has great mood Sanford. To me it shows the vastness of the Alaskan landscape as I would expect to see it. The lakes, trees, snow covered mountains all contribute to the image. The time of day is also good, as it lights the clouds well. Your processing in Lightroom is very subtle, which shows the original was well captured. |

Congratulations Jay, for taking a fine image of a local festival. I'm sure there were many other people around for the event, looking at the artists and their work from all angles. Many people will comment on taking photos of other people's artwork, but personally, I can see nothing wrong with it and am all for it. Many objects we find in cities and towns, such as statues, fountains and details on historic buildings all include someone else's art, but we still happily photograph them. Back to your image, it's bright, it's colourful and it definitely tells a great and strong story. Given the surrounding items, the sign, the handbag, the grass and the tray of chalks, that are all part of this story, I feel your cropping them out greatly strengthens this image. The story is all about her artwork on the pavement and that is the vast majority of your image. You have left enough of the artist to complete this story and answer any questions the viewer may have. A great image, very well done indeed. |
