As everyone has said Debbie, compositionally this is a great shot. We all learn things along our photographic path. We shoot, we learn, then we shoot again. |

A stunning image Dave, I don't think there is any better way you could present it. Well done. |

I'm a great fan of panoramas but with this one Matt, I agree that you should leave the cropping as is. The image works well for me as you have presented it. |

Thanks Peter. As mentioned to the others, I had to go close to the right to get a really annoying buoy out of the shot. |

Thanks Janos. As I said to Matt, there is a buoy in the water just to the right, so I had to go close to the right tip of the building. |

Thanks for your comments Matt, the reason I treated the right hand side as I did was because in the water is a buoy, lit up and shining brightly. To me, at that moment it was the biggest annoyance possible. |

Congratulations Sherry, your construction of this image is first rate. Of course the walkway leads us to the lighthouse and provides excellent depth. I'm not sure if I want/need to see the horizon above that timber line or not, so it doesn't really matter. The pastel colors of sunrise are just magic and a perfect touch of using glow of the lighthouse bulb to balance the rising sun. |

I fully understand your thoughts and comments Sanford. One thing I love about photography is it's diversity. Sometimes I like to step away from the norm. Yes, not all things are for everyone and that is perfectly fine. We had a comp at our camera club last night (via zoom) and I entered a free lensed image. A photo taken with the lens "NOT" attached to the camera, but just held in front of it. A good number of other members said they liked it, the judge said "I don't know what to make of this one." |

Thanks Jay. I like to try different things sometimes. Who says all our images have to tick all of the boxes all of the time. |

Thanks Heidi. I've tried some ICM as well and am comfortable with both. Depends on my subject and mood at the time. |

Thank you Jorn. I think "common rules" should be replaced by "optional guidelines". |

Thanks Cyndy, who says all images have to be sharp all the time? Next time you might be in a waiting room of some kind, have a look at the artwork on the walls. And count the fuzzies. |

Thank you Stephen. Yes many things can be done in post processing to get to a final result such as this, but sometimes going "old school" and doing it at the time of capture is just plain old good fun. And there's nothing to stop us taking a series of images are varying degrees of blur and choosing our personal favorite. |

A very fine image Jay. I agree with Trey that the square format works very well. I fully understand where you and Trey are coming from regarding the shadows and branches but their confliction is causing me a bit of grief. It must be my month for playing with other people's images. Just for the sake of discussion I have done 2 further crops, the 2nd quite radical and severe. Just are just thoughts and of course you and the others have every right to shoot me down. |

This is a strong image Trey. Your construction of this one is great, with us just seeing what needs to be seen. But I am in two minds. I like your processing and the way you have brought the rocks and their details out, but I prefer the "cleanliness" of the water in the original. I know what can get an oxide color happening, but personally I prefer the whiter water. That's just my personal opinion. |

This is a great image Sanford, one to be proud of. Strong subject matter and the mood of b&w is brilliant. So many times I find myself seeing "images within images". I of my favorite image formats is a panoramic, sometimes a 2x1, sometimes a 3x1 (checkout an aussie landscaper by the name of Ken Duncan). I often ask "If something is taken out of an image, does that removal detract from the image or make it weaker? I hope you don't mind my turning your image into a 2x1 pano. I love the ripples in the foreground water that give an excellent base to the image, but, if some are taken out, is the image weaker? Same for the sky and right hand side? Is the viewer now forced to focus more on the other remaining elements in the image. Yes, maybe some more could come off the right side, but then the 2x1 pano effect is not so strong. I tried a 3x1 (16x7 in old film language) but that just lost too much of the water for me. I'm not meaning any of this as a criticism or compulsory action Sanford, just merely providing a further possible option. |

Absolutely superb Heidi!!! Still lifes are wonderful to see, time can be taken in setting the elements up just right, arranging the lighting and then the processing. I know I am being super picky now, but I am only doing so with the best intentions for your image, when I move this image up and down on my screen I notice some little white spots move with it, 4 on the right below the flower and near the stopper and 1 in the lower left near the edge. Please don't think me rude, I'm just trying to remove some imperfections should you ever wish to send this image to another level of competition / exhibition. |

For a quick "grab shot" this is ok Jorn. Yes there may be some issues regarding sharpness, but considering the circumstances at the time of capture, it is a good attempt. As you would know, macro lenses have a very shallow depth of field, so maybe next time try a normal zoom lens which may give you a better depth of field. But still, this is an image worth trying for. |

A great, very strong image Cyndy. Different is good. Your knowledge of post processing is much stronger then mine and I applaud your work here. One question please, I'm seeing just a touch or red and green in the flower bed, near bottom right? Or is that just something on my screen here? I completely acknowledge Trey's comments but personally I don't have a problem with the light globes. I'm not looking at this image so much as a photograph, but more of an artwork. As a whole, I enjoy all the details, tones and little interesting areas. |
