The location, colors and serenity are superb Sherry. A sunrise captured beautifully. But sorry, I have a problem. The bird on the far right doesn't bother me at all. I expect to see birds fly in the sky at sunrise, that's what they do. My problem is the out of focus grass bottom right and the nearest 2 posts. I feel this image needs them, but they show that about the bottom 20% of the foreground is soft or out of focus. Personally, as they are the nearest elements in this image, I'm have troubles making my eyes climb over that and get into the background. |

A great image Debbie and you have handled this contrasty scene very well. With the utmost respect, I will disagree with Matt about cropping the bridge and sky out, although I understand where he's coming from. My eyes need that bridge and green trees top right to keep the verticals correct. When I scroll the image to take the bridge and sky out of the top of my monitor and am left with the falls and roots, sorry, but I nearly fall out of my chair. I need that bridge, sky and green trees very much. |

What a great image Matt. Very well constructed at the time of capture and very well processed to give the final image. |

Simply superb Peter, as always. I love everything about it. You're still breaking the rules by shooting into the sun, good work, keep breaking rules. |

I've heard many times that a photo should "tell a story" and this one does exactly that, as Jay pointed out. I hope you don't mind Heidi, but I played with a tighter crop. Why? 1) If the chopped antennae are a mistake, they don't need to look like a mistake. As I've heard with portraits "If you're going to chop fingers or a hand, take the whole arm". 2) If the story is the insect eating the plant, highlight that part of the action/story. 3) We can still see enough of the insect to know exactly what it is.
Your processing is superb! To me it is more black and silver than black and white. That makes me think your "predator" is all the more unstoppable. I just wish the head was that tiny touch sharper. Can I ask if you know what your fstop was at the time? |

Another fine image Trey. As the others have said, the b&w is a strong final image. The detail in the blacks are much stronger. The sky shows you had nice even lighting at the time which always a bonus. You have captured the character of the caboose very well. |

Another cracker Cyndy !!! I agree with everyone's comments, well almost. The red border, doesn't bother me at all. My eyes need to be told "this is where the image's edges are". The red compliments the blooms for me and white is what everyone else might automatically go for. Red is bold, and being bold in photography is good. I must be becoming a grumpy old man, because of after many years of hearing camera club judges repeat the same rules over and over, like a friend of mine down here, I am starting to ask "why?". You have "chosen" to use 3 blooms here. If you had chosen to only have 2, that would be perfectly fine with me. I fully understand that odd numbers seem more pleasing in an image, but I feel that is the photographer's prerogative. If you went to a zoo, or even Africa, and there were 2 animals interacting together, would you not take the image because there wasn't a third? I mean no offence to Trey, nor do I contradict him or anyone else, I just feel that "rules" can sometimes be very stifling. My closing comment on this image Cyndy is "I wish I had taken it." |

Simple but strong. How many times do we see images that are too involved and too complex. Everyone has commented enough on the colors, shadows and clouds so I will leave those alone. I like your "construction" of this image Sanford. What you have chosen to take out of your original shot and what you have retained in your final image is great. Not complicated but still a very pleasing image of a small, intimate piece of a landscape. |

A great image Jay and bees can't be relied upon to model too long for us. All insects can be very difficult to capture sharply, you have done very well indeed. With the others commenting on the "whiteness" of the flower. you as the photographer are free to present your work anyway you see fit. Sure as eggs, if you were to brighten it up, someone somewhere would say it's too bright. The best and only judge of an image is the photographer. If you are happy with it, that's all that matters. Excellent shot. |

A superb image Jorn, as soon as I saw it. I fully understand and acknowledge the comments made by all the others, but, in my humble opinion, you have captured this image and presented perfectly. I would not touch a thing about it. Be proud of this just as you have presented it Jorn. |
