73 May 20 Reply Hi Peter, what are your thoughts about ND filters in relation to David's question above? May 13th
73 May 20 Reply Hi guys, I'm chiming in. ND filters are good, particularly graduated ones. Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't, then look back at the images later and wish I had. Expensive brands like Lee, Nissi & Tiffen are out of my budget, so I use Cokin and am happy with the results. One good thing about them is they come in different strengths and you can use more than one if you want. Nothing to stop you using a stronger one to tone down a bright sky, and also use a weaker one upside down to tone down a bright foreground. I'm now going to ring the chiming bell above Peter's head. 73 May 20 Reply I have finished work for the day, been to the shops quickly and am enjoying a glass of wine, just one. Searching everywhere for these distracting birds of yours, and only found them after 5 minutes when I read your comment again about them being almost dead center. I was beginning to think you were playing with my head. Me, in super picky mode, did not even see them until you told us, so there is your answer. Birds are to be expected near water ways, that's where they live. If cloning them out makes you more comfortable with the final image, then do so, but in my humble opinion, they don't detract from the image in the slightest. PS there is a wombat in your other email. May 13th
73 May 20 Reply Thank you for your thoughts Sherry. Yes I considered B&W, but I just love the blue and grey in the ice. The shear size of this glacier just blew me away. May 12th
73 May 20 Comment An image to be proud of Dave. Before reading the comments that horizon line didn't bother me, landscapes do flow in all directions. From down here, I would not expect to see too much in Death Valley, color included. In my mind, the way you have presented this final image is superb indeed. May 12th
73 May 20 Comment I thought Topaz was a gemstone. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Seriously David, this is a great image. I'm not going to comment on the processing as I don't use Topaz, although quite a few friends do. Capture wise and compositionally, superb. The pano format suits it a treat. Detail in the foreground water, through the bridge and on to the moon is great. May 12th
73 May 20 Comment A stunner in every way Sherry. Great depth by using foreground and background elements and that curving line is used just right. As David said, the clouds are spectacular, you were blessed that morning. And since when does Sherry shoot a fast shutter speed with water, that's unheard of ;) but how good are those ripples in bottom right. I was super picky with Nok, so for consistency I should be here too. The main red buoy doesn't really bother me, but that little one right up at the pier does, as does that "thing" on the right margin. But I still wish I had taken this shot. May 12th
73 May 20 Comment Siberia ??? WOW. Even more desolate than I imagined, but also more picturesque. B&W does produce a dramatic image. I love the clouds and the overall image Janos, very well done, but I must say I would love to see those dark rock areas both to the left and right about a third of the way up just lightened a little, to give them some more detail. May 12th
73 May 20 Comment Simply magical Peter. Water movement, low angle, wide angle lens up close to the foreground, black, blue and a touch of white are all superb. Isn't it great to get our knees wet? May 12th
73 May 20 Comment This is a wonderful image Nok. The depth, the colors and the vastness are all that I would expect to see in a shot of the Grand Canyon. Please forgive me, but I am going to be super picky. I agree with Sherry about the branches on the left, but as I hold a piece of paper over those branches to remove them from my sight, I would also take out that small dark triangle shape with those little bright points of light. Yes you will loose some of that beautiful sky but there is still plenty of it left. Lastly, do I see a glow along the center of the horizon line? Is that a sign of over sharpening? May 12th

76 May 20 Comment A superb final image Trey. You have taken a bland cold background and changed it to still cold but not bland. I feel the blue adds to the image. Adding some warmth to the reeds is also a good step. Removing that last vertical reed on the right has shown more water in that corner of the image. Great job. May 12th
76 May 20 Comment You should be extremely proud of this one Sanford, it is simply superb. You have chosen the right topic and particularly the image to give it the watercolor treatment. The textured white edging, the dappled colors especially in the sky are all superbly done. When I look at your original image and then your main image, I would not hesitate in believing that an artist saw your photo and asked if they could do a painting of it. I have seen the word used in our group many times, have absolutely no idea what it means, but I get the feeling it's a good word. Kudos. Down here I think we would say "Ripper Rita". May 12th
76 May 20 Comment This is a stunning image Jay. Like Jorn's this month, simple yet strong. Your processing has really made that really jump out. The ice, colors and sharpness are really first rate. The only other thing I would do with this image is hang it on a wall. Very well done indeed. May 12th
76 May 20 Comment We are all heading for the archives these days, nothing wrong with that at all. I love the detail in the feathers in the lit side of the bird, they give a warm feeling that the bird is just enjoying either the first or maybe last rays of the day. You have cropped it beautifully, placing the bird in just the right spot. If you want to have a peak at group 73, you will see something from my archives and I would appreciate your thoughts. 76 May 20 Comment I think this is a very strong image Jorn. Simple yet effective. I see shapes in the composition, but yet a simplicity, particularly with the use of negative space in the empty sky. Cyndy's b&w version is also good, but personally, I prefer to see the detail below the guttering in your color. A very strong image that holds the viewer's attention. May 12th
