Ian, the biggest problem I had at the Grand Canyon was realizing it was REAL and not an image on a big wall. The standard tourist shots I took didn't compare. The vertical worked and separated it from tourist shots. I agree the scrub could have used a bit of cropping, removing scrub to about half way from the bottom of the "V". |

Some thoughts on lack of a tripod. The new cameras are getting better about allowing you to shoot at slower speeds. At the risk or repeating what you already know, here are some thoughts. If sitting down on your butt, as you may have been, you can use your knee as a tripod. At the beach, you can often find drift wood which could work as a mono-pod. If you brace your upper arm against your body with your elbow at waist level, then breathe out slowly you can shoot at slower speeds. Practice with your camera and see how slow you can set the shutter speed while getting a good shot. |

Jerry, give thought to cropping the left side to remove half of the branch, then instead of distraction, it would be more of a left side frame. |
