Thanks Ruth, I do enjoy architectural photography. I had a series of buildings that I actually got to exhibit a couple times. |

I think 2 birds is fine... that is what is really there... 3 birds might be too matchy matchy with the 3 kids... |

thank you for your comments, Kieu-Hanh. I swear I already commented to you, but it has disappeared. I liked your idea that Michael took up to lighten up the structure. I hadn't realized how dark it was. |

Great edit Michael, you've definitely opened up the structure a lot. I think there is still enough of the cool sky there. I really liked the light structure on the left of my image, but now I don't miss it. I may be using your edits for the photo before I enter it into another competition. Thanks!
Question: do you use Silver Efex Pro with Lightroom or on its own? |

Great image. I agree with the others that this image is dark and the antenna need to go. good luck with that! What state is this in? I love finding water elements that are quiet like this. I did a little edit and cropped out a bit of the bank on the left. |

Very interesting shot, I have no idea what that instrument is. How did it sound? Like regular drums or more hollow? They look like gourds... but I couldn't find a photo online.
I like Michael's edit, making the drummer stand out from the background is a good idea. Too bad the drummer didn't wear a different shirt! |

Great silhouette, love the B&W conversion. I agree too much sky, did you try it as a panoramic? |

Generally, it feels awkward to look up at a face seeing their nostrils. Also, the crop is a bit too tight, you can't really tell what he is doing with the title. |

Wow, great shot. Before I read the context, the lighting jumped out at me. I really liked the book. It tells me it's a collection and what it is, but the crop without it and the weird lid on the left is good too.
I'm not sure how big the shelving is, but can you elevate the pieces in the back row?, to give the collection a little bit more depth. |

Hi Luann,
I like this image, it is very creative and very simple. And I appreciate your comment "the more simplistic an image is the more likely it is to be successful in salons." I'll take that into account when getting my images ready for competitions.
But... for me, it needs something else. I tried to add a reflection, and then I cropped that. I like the more abstract look, rather than the simplistic look. Just my preference. |

not so much a gamble as a mistake, I was aiming for the full bridge and came down too fast! lol |

The sky is great in this shot Don, but I'm looking at all those houses and wondering what cool patterns you could get if you could show the density of those homes. Did you shoot any angles of only the homes? |

Hey Lou,
I like your image, but I agree with the others, it needs more contrast. Also it needs more oomph. The bridge photo you posted under Dick's comment has that oomph. That bridge has character! where is that bridge located? |

I lost my second drone (DJI Spark) in the Augusta (GA) river... never found it... lost most of the photos from that day. It was depressing to lose it in the river, I walked the banks for a couple hours, but it never turned up. So, that same day, I bought another, refurbished Spark. Still have that one, although I have crashed it many times.
I tried to land it on the narrow bridge I was on, it hit the railing... 50/50 chance it would fall in the river or on the bridge... |

Hey Bob,
I like this view of the cemetery... you know I usually always shoot straight done with my shots. Glad you took up that mantle this month.
I also like the composition with the square on an angle. Like an arrow pointing right off of the screen. The long shadows are very cool too.
I really like the image with the sign of the cemetery. It lends some much needed detail to the story.
You always give good commentary on the history of your photos. Have you thought about making small books or zines?

Thanks Don, and yes there were no people around. Mainly because the ballfield and roller coaster are closed in the winter. A lot of the white stuff in the background is snow.
I would like to go back and take more shots of this sign... always when I look at the photos, there are other angles I would like to take. |

Hi Lou,
Thanks for the comments... I agree, even my husband uses the "looks like a DSLR" comment sometimes. Sometimes it looks like it could be taken with a DSLR, but the coaster sign faces the internal part of the coaster... not facing the garage where I was standing or facing the ballfields. Nevertheless, I was able to maneuver the drone to get the shot of the sign with mainly blue sky behind it. It bothers me a teensy bit that the bottom left of the S is touching the track! Argh! lol |

Hi Dick, thanks for your comments. I guess that is true, it is a shot that possibly could have been taken with a DSLR. Funny, my usual drone shots are the top down look, this is not my normal angle. I did take more shots of the coaster from other angles.
The parking garage is next to the coaster and the ball field. So I was able to see the drone the whole time. And I did fly the drone into the center area of the coaster to get this shot, I liked having the lighter background of the sky behind the sign.
I did not have a filter on the drone, it was sunset and getting very dark. I probably could have lightened it up in camera, but I was cold and fighting the sunset. Also, I fly with the DJI Spark, and the battery life is very limited.
Also, the coaster was closed and not running since it is winter. I could go back and run the video along the coaster track, although my flying is not so smooth. |
