So we're on the same page. There are things you can do in PS that you can't do in any RAW processor like blend modes and compositing. As far as masking is concerned for "regular" edits like exposure, etc. the masking functions in C1 are, in my opinion, much easier to use than those in PS. But like I said, everyone to his/her own. |

Thanks Beverly, see my response to Victor.
I do appreciate your offer for help. I used to use PS's layer masks for adjustments but now find it so "old school." PS layer masks are good but hard to work with compared to Capture One's adjustment layers and even Lightroom's little annoying pins. Frankly I'm perplexed why so many people still use PS for anything but compositing and other adjustment you can't do with a dedicated RAW processor. But hey, to each his/her own. |

Thanks again Victor. I added more shadow at the top with a linear gradient mask and added more clarity all over. I think that responds to your comments and I do like it better. |

I agree with Carol and Jim. I'm not feeling any emotional attachment to this pic. The characters seem disconnected from each other and from the environment. |

Hi Bill, I'm in the same camp as Carol and Jim about the guy. The woman and girl are the brightest people and are in the foreground. That naturally draws the most attention to itself.

Hi Beverly, I really like this story. You captured the action exactly right and your crop is excellent in my opinion. I think the colors look really good.
I think you have one more little bit of work and that is to clone the part of the fence, middle bar and by the ground where content aware fill left gaps and that one vertical bar that it left looking like a string. You should be able to correct those areas with small clone stamp stool brushes. |

Hi Carol, I think this is a good story. I like the colors of the buildings and the cobblestone.
I think I may prefer a landscape composition to show more of the town on the left and less of the bright sky.

Jim this is a really nice cityscape scene. I like the long exposure effect on the water and light trails. The exposure on the buildings is good for the most part.
I think the long exposure left the sky too bright and it looks out of place. Since you were on a tripod, I think you maybe could have taken a second exposure for the sky and then layered the two exposures in Photoshop. HDR might be another option.
Correcting in PP is a challenge. When I imported your file into Capture One, I found the bottom of the sky is almost totally blown out; numbers were reading 254-254-254. That left a little to recover which I tried by reducing the Whites slider down 100%. Also the dark are on the left is almost crushed, reading in the 4-7 range in some spots. I recovered some detail with the Blacks slider. Of course all I had was the jpg thumbnail. You might do better with the raw file. You might hate my edits too <LOL>, it's your photo. |
