Thanks, John. I will definitely take your advice and remove the branches. Clearly, they distract. I was aware of them, but in my process I just decided to ignore them for some reason. This shows me the similarity of photography to writing: We mentally overlook certain errors when we write because "we know what we mean." It takes an outside editor to point out problems that we're blind to. Your comment demonstrates the value of these study groups. |

I like this portrait. The child has a direct connection and conveys an appealing innocence. The success of this photo comes down to one thing: How to get rid of distracting background elements so that the subject is more isolated. The whites, especially, in the background need to be toned down. May not be possible, but that, in my opinion, is what it needs. |

I like this Halloween still life. Question: where do you want the eye to go--to the pumpkin face or to the red flowers? I think the face is your main subject, so I would crop on the right side to cut off about 1/3 of the flower basket, Also, Use a little post crop vignetting in Lightroom to tone down the corners slightly. |

I like the subject, but I would approach it differently. Bright sunlight isn't always the best. It casts harsh shadows and blows out the whites. The composition, with the subject centered, is very static. Even if all that's in the frame is this window and the white bricks, I would have moved the window to the right or left in a horizontal frame--anything but centered. |

Interesting photo. A grave subject. The focal point seems to be the woman's face, which I would recommend being placed either to the right or left, but not so centered.

A cheeky photo. Very funny! You capture the humor of the artist quite well.
